2005yellowhorse
Hello, I own a Z1 that was professionally installed a few years ago. The gps never switched to nightmode even though I have it set on automatic. I have played with the functions to manually set it to nightmode but to no avail. This leads me to believe that something was connected inproperly. Can anyone help me?
garrettoomey
It sounds like the orange ILL wire was not connected properly or not connected at all.
CatchMeIfYouCan631
He didn't connect the Illumination wire, or orange wire. Take it back there and tell them to connect it. If they say you're vehicle doesn't support a radio dimmer, tell them to tap into the the parking lights wire in the driver's kick. There will be one there and they can do it. Also what vehicle do you have, year make model..I can tell you exactly where and what color it is.
2005yellowhorse
Hello, Thanx for the quick responses---I drive a 2005 Mustang Convertible. Unfortunatley I had it installed in Manhattan but I have since moved to Georgia so I will be correcting this issue myself.
CatchMeIfYouCan631
Ahh, you have one of the more uncommo cars with the parking ligh wire in the passenger side. No biggy, it's a black wire with a green tracer in your passenger side kick panel. Only catch is it's a negative polarity, and the ILL wire needs a positive, so you're going to have to wire in a relay so the Parking light wire will throw a positive to the ILL wire. It's not hard, get a 5 wire relay that has the numbers 85, 86, 30, 87, and 87a. connect 86 to a constant 12v source, and 85 to the parking light wire. connect 30 to 86 and 87 to the ILL wire, 87a is not needed. supermixer
It sounds like the orange ILL wire was not connected properly or not connected at all. does the orange/white wire that is needed for this get plugged directly into the back of the z unit? my cc installer last night didnt do this right either. CatchMeIfYouCan631
No, it ties into the orange and white wire coming from the main power harness from the Z series.

CatchMeIfYouCan631
orange/white from the OEM harness, to Orange/white from the Avic power harness.
garrettoomey
It should be crimped and/or soldered for a solid permenant connection.
