cntrylvr79
So here's some pics. Working on modding the lower dash area to accomdate my alpine 9855 and the upper dash for my d1. Also wiring them up so that they both work. So here's a couple shots of the alpine mocked up and the d1 in it's final position. Also getting it wired up so that the cruise control switch will control the alpine radio. Oh and we can't forget the radios will stay on after the key is turned off until the door is opened, the same way it works in most gm and ford products. Thank you drive through first window. sportsfan21
Looks good :D How do you make it so that they stay on until the drivers door is opened? I was thinking about doing that next considering I've run out of things to install in my car
cntrylvr79
Thanks. To bite one from my other favorite forum, here's the link to set up retained accessory power. http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#drto I used the second diagram so as not to end up backfeeding power to other systems tthat I didn't want to keep powered. sportsfan21
Thanks for the info on those relays. I gotta ask though, why did you install that Alpine?
cntrylvr79
Better sound quality. 13 band eq, time correction, and the alpine cd changer and ipod interface I got for free. Plus I was told it couldn't be done. That one right there was enough to make me find a way to do it.

PaisanNYC
nice setup buddy!Do you have a pic of both units together with the dash trim reattached?
GnatGoSplat
Interesting, but why would you want 2 HU's? I probably would have preferred to get a touchscreen and add-on navigation without audio features if I wanted a seperate HU. Redundancy bothers me a lot. Maybe I'm alone in that.

I sold the original bezel I had for the d1.
Interesting, but why would you want 2 HU's? ladiver
What adapter did you use for splitting the factory harness to control 2 HU's? I was thinking about doing this, but gave up after I could not find anything.
cntrylvr79
No adapter availible. I built a relay bank to kick out the audio from the alpine when the d1 goes into it's voice prompts. I also have a 4 channel amp in the car so I just had to interupt the rca signal of the alpine and replace it with the rca signal from the d1 during the navi prompts. Haven't taken pics of the switch bank yet, because I haven't gotten it into the car yet., Right now the d1 doesn't output any audio whatsoever. Though I did test the box on the work bench and it behaves as it should.
cntrylvr79
A little update for those that care. Finally got around to starting the actual glassing, so here's a couple of sanpshots. By the way, yes the alpine has been sitting in the mock up since the original post back in october. I feel accomplished I actually worked on my car twice in one week.
