dlwarr
First - thanks to all for all the helpful information. I just installed my AVIC - F series and have completed basic "mods" (ie custom made splashes). I am new to the site, so when I get a chance I will upload them. I have read all the information on editing the image.res to make custom icons. I saw this quetion asked but could not find the answer... "what software is used to open and edit the image.res file" I tried resource hacker but it will not read 16-bit (which the AVIC uses). I also tried XN resource editor and resource explorer to no avail - cannot open the .res files to edit. Could you please provide what software you are using to open, view and edit the image.res? ggarcez
.res file ia a compressed archive, you need to decompress, edit images and recompress it. Use 7zip to do it.....recrompress as 7zp file and rename it to .res GUGA
dlwarr
THANK YOU for the quick response. Guess I am doing something wrong. I have the data.zip file. My 7-Zip does not have a decompress (it does have a compress) but rather "extract" which I did. I can see all the files but when I try to open the image.res it says "windows cannot open this file". So searched (for almost 2 days now) on what software to use to open the file and tried several resource editors and so on. None of the software I have will let me see the scripts in the file. I am at a loss on what people here are using to view the scripts for the image.res file and edit them. Or maybe I am just misunderstanding where to change the images (icons) to my custom made ones
blackh8552
use 7zip to open image.res as a archive and edit.. works great
dlwarr
I just figured that out.... apparently, I have been trying to "open" the file rather than using 7-Zip and Extracting the file. I swear sometimes I can be sooooo dumb! Thanks everyone! Oh just to be certain - I plan to do the following so if anything is wrong - PLEASE let me know: Already completed: - saved original data.zip file on my pc in case I cannot get the mods to work - made a copy of the data.zip file to work from - extracted the files needed to make mod changes using 7-Zip Next Steps: - copy picture I will be changing/editing to my desktop image folder - edit the picture in this folder picture to my design - save picture in 16 bit bmp with same file name as orginial - when all changes are done - compress the image.res folder using 7-Zip - copy the updated compressed data.zip file to theSD card - upload new data.zip file to unit

dlwarr
Boris - Yes I realize they are two different files. I suppose I should have written "extract the (image.res) file which is needed to make the picture mod changes... but thank you very much for the reminder
