JDub86
Thats what I did with mine in my Scion. I mounted it on the metal plate under the dash behind the gauge cluster.
stan1000
I put mine right on top of the head unit under the heat vents inside the console. It works just fine.
Fen911
Put mine right on top of the car on the rear.
MaxPower
Like others, mine's hidden in the dash, on top of the center HVAC ducts. Every now and then I check the reception, and I regularly get nine satellites showing up as green (i.e. usable signal). I'm pretty sure that's way more than the system needs for accurate navigation. rowold30
i put mine in the front of the dash as close as i could get it to the windshield on the drivers side.....and i havent had any problems yet at all
noxguy83
Tint will only affect the gps signal it it is metallic. I usually install them on the front dash or under a plastic panel in the front. On my personal vehicle I ran it up to the top of the windshiled and double sided taped it the the windshield in the middle(just above the rearview mirror). This way there is nothing on top of my dash and you doent even notice its there, looks like a factory item. Works great with perfect signal.
jin22gt
Hey guys, THANKS for all your replys! Im trying to make the gps antenna discreet as possible. I was thinking about putting the antenna under the front windshield vents, but im scared I will lose reception. Im not sure if my 20% rear windshield tints are metallic or not. Is there a way to find out if my tints are metallic or not? Im going to try to stop by the tint shop if there isn't a way to find out myself. Â Thanks for your help guys. paQ
how about switching your unit on with the antenna under the dash and see what happens
jin22gt
Is the antenna pad really needed? I didn't use the pad. Seems to get ok reception.
VBLUE42
I have mine installed on the top of the unit. I get max signal.
zephyrloco
I put mine behind the radio, inside the dash. There was a metal piece that extends behind the whole dash and I just stuck mine on that and get prefect signal.
KillaICM
I have mine INSIDE my dash. I doubt tint is going to make a difference.
