NSBCruiser
I just installed a universal rear view camera (JVC KV-CM1) for my AVIC-Z1 head unit. My local stereo shop had a great Memorial Day sale and I got it for next to nothing. The camera has a power (ignition 12V) wire, a ground wire, and a video out (RCA) wire. I was an easy install. My question is: I tapped the head unit's ignition power and ground for the camera. Do you think I will get a better picture if I run a independent power and ground for the camera? I'm not sure if the camera is getting a full 12 volts or my Z1 is getting a full 12 volts either now. I don't have a volt meter either. Just don't want to have any problems and I want the best performance out of the camera. I did this because the camera's wire-harness end where the (+), (-), and Video are all together and short. garrettoomey
You should not have a problem tapping the camera's power leads to the same leads as the headunit.
