cadillac cts non bose and avic z1

Recommended Posts

First time to install aftermarket head unit. I try to DIY.
I got special bracket for my cts from installer.com. I want to keep my factory wire as much as possble.
My question is

1."Is there any harness between factory harness(connector) to avic z1"
2.If I take out factory radio, what is going to happen to alarm system?
3. where can I get installation info abou this any web site?

Thank you all in advance.

1. Well by going to installer.com you are half way there. I'm guessing you have a 2004 CTS (just an average I guessed at) and they list this

You can also order your Z1 from crutchfield and they would have given you all these install parts free as well as detailed instructions on how to take your dash apart.

2. I don't know. I have never heard of an alarm system working in conjuntion with your stereo, but I supposed Cadilac could have done it. But I would guess that it would be fine.

3. If you want the install manual for the Z1, it's available online from Pioneer's web site (you have to register for it I believe). Or if you want something to take your car apart, Crutchfield will give you one if you buy the sterero from them, or you can buy the instructions from them for $5 - $10 or something.

Yah, that harness says it from Volkeswagon, but it lists that the 04,05 Cadilac CTS also uses the same harness. I don't know if it does or not, that's a weird collection of vehicles which use the same harness.

As for "databus sucks" I think he is referring to the fact that some cars are now sending audio information to seperate amplifiers somewhere else in the car, no via analog audio lines (the rca jacks on your new head unit) but via a databus. I believe most cars use CANBUS or something like that... or that most cars that use this feature, use canbus.

If your speakers are connected to an external amp, and not to the head unit and all that goes from the head unit to the amp is that canbus interface, then wiring up speakers from the head unit will suck.

If there are lines directly to the speakers from your head unit area, I don't think you will have a problem. But I have never worked on a cadilac.

Let me ask a question: If you were to leave your keys in the ignition and open the door, you'll hear a "bonging" sound. Where does it come from? Is it the door speaker?

Another question: Does your car have OnStar?

Thank you all.
Yes, I have "bonging" sound when I open the door, and my car is xm, Onstar equiped. factory amp too.

I just got info from Metra. If I use 'GM OS-10' I can use onstar but not xm.
and I just order that harness too.
Let me update. Thank you again.

Great Rock,

I too have been looking for a RAP DataBus adapter for my GM vehicle ('05 Buick LaCrosse). There are three main companies that make these units:

Metra, P.A.C.,Best Kits, and Blitz..(I'll post links later). You should call ALL of these companies tech support and see if a proper adapter is made for your car for 100% compatibility. I have to wait until they make one for my car. With GM vehicles there are too many things that go through this RAP adapter. If you haven't gotten the right one, then anything can go wrong with your vehicle and your Z1. I HIGHLY recommend that you bring your car to a professional installation company, because GM vehicles can get really screwed up if the wrong adapter is installed or an improper installation is done.

Hope this helps...links are below.

Hi ,
Even though GM, I don't think that is Rocket Science.
I 'd rather challenge than asking "pro".
Anyway does anybody have any idea 'why no audio'?

Navigation works even though I did not connect VSS wire. Onstar works fine too. DVD doesn't work.

Please help !!!
