Wire nut
What's up fam, my question is does anyone know why the VR catalog takes so long? I have tried 4 different ipods that I have and all seem to never finish cataloging. I have the 8 gig 3rd generation nano, the 30 gig video, the 160 gig video and the Iphone 3GS and all seem to never come of the VR catalog mode. I cant search playlist or anything but change the song. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a fast solution? Thanks.
recce93
I have a 30 g ipod w/video model and it takes FOREVER! I don't buy music too often and really only update a few podcasts on it each week so it pretty much stays in the car all the time. So, I only turn on the VR update when I have added new songs (rarely) and leave it off at all other times. I thought the VR feature is neat and I showed it to my friends once but otherwise I just don't use it. I definitely don't use it enough to put myself through that pain. (Oh, I have about just under 20 gig of music on it just in case you were wondering about the time to update and the amount of music, the update seems endless)
CamelTowing
Same as above. I rarely update my ipod, so I let it catalog the VR once, then turn it off. Whenever I add new stuff to the ipod, I turn it on again and let it do its thing once, and then turn it back off.
Wire nut
Actually I found out that once I re-synced my ipod w itunes and put it back on my 30 gig loaded with music and video took about 50 sec to finish the VR catalog. so its working very fast now. Stomu
Thanks, Does the unit have to be in ipod mode for the VR Catalog to work or can I listen to something else while it works?
VBLUE42
It has to be on the ipod screen while it catalogs.

Stomu
over a thousand.
VBLUE42
I have over 4600 songs on my ipod and it only takes about 20 seconds to catalog.
Stomu
are you using a Ipod or an Iphone?
VBLUE42
Ipod 160GB with an actual HDD drive. This type of ipod will have the slowest read time and theoretically should take the longest to catalog. I also leave cataloging on always.
VBLUE42
One tip you guys can try if your having problems with the ipod catalog feature is to completely reformat your ipod and re-sync your content. That has worked for me in the past with stubborn ipod issues with these units.
