Jeffs64
Does the metal plate really help ? Or is it just so the magnet on the antenna will hold the antenna in place
terron
I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of the metal plate is aside from securing the movement of the receiver. My antenna sits atop a speaker in my dash corner and works fine, although my altitude is always off about 20-30 ft but location is spot-on.
Jeffs64
To terron Mine is localed my top of the dashboard on the drivers side with dubble sided tape, seems just to work just fine. I run the IDT skin/mod so it has an altimeter on the screen, but you'll also see one when looking at the sat signal in the navi/settings menu.
1loudls
the metal piece is supposed to help with reception, nav and sat radio antenna's are designed to be mounted on a piece of metal of a certain minim size kinda like how the dish part of a DirecTV dish focuses the signal into the LNB and the metal sheet is for when you don't have it on a metal body panel. how important is it, not too important. the only time i use it is when i mount the antenna under the dash.
