avickatie
Hi all I've been an avid reader of this site since i got my F710BT. I've spent days reading posts comments, trying to find someone else with the same problem as me and some sort of resolution, but i can't. I've had the 710 for about 2 months working fine, about two weeks ago it would start to boot up and after about 7 secs (still on splash screen) it would go blank and the illiminated button would also turn off (does NOT reboot), i can still here the fan. No matter how many times i pressed the reset button it would not go back. Yes i've tried booting into testmode, but after about 15 secs it again goes blank. If i leave the car for over 7-8 hours it will then boot up fine, but if i try to reboot i get the same issue as before until i leave it for 7-8 hours. So leaving it 7-8 hours i managed to get into testmode; I've flashed a backup from a f700bt, i've deleted those '4 files' on my flash disc and also the contents of the igo save folder as described on this site, none of which make a difference. The reverse camera is switched off, the hardware & software bypass are fitted. I've tried all the solutions i can find on here, the only thing i haven't tried is an installation of a different 710 EU backup, because i haven't got one. All i can think is like some others have mentioned previously it may be a hardware issue. Sorry it's a long one but wanted to fully explain, any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. CdRSKuLL
Sounds like it could be a heat issue maybe stopping it booting up. After a period of time the heat disappears which then allows it to boot. Have you tried unplugging / plugging in the main power connector at the back and checking your power leads. Also if there's a fan inside it must have vents, check that these are clear from dust etc. Is it still under warranty ? If so I wouldn't even bother messing with it and just go and get it exchanged / repaired. Steve
avickatie
Steve, It's been taken out all power leads checked, it still has the same problem when it's sat plugged in on my seat, i.e no vents covered, so pretty sure it's not a heating related issue. CdRSKuLL
It maybe that the fan is working but the fins on the heat sinks are full of fluff. with you describing the 7-8 hour wait this does point to a heat issue. It may also be a component failing and only working when cold. Is it still under warranty ?
avickatie
Afraid not i bought it i bought it second hand. Do you think i should get someone to open it up and take a look at these heat sinks?
avickatie
So today had the unit out and opened it up, it's clean as a whistle, no dust or anything. Thought maybe the processor would be similar to a laptop and need thermal paste so took a look at that, it's not the same, it's kind of a sealed unit. Also been thinking more about it being a heat problem and i don't think it is as i drive to Devon today (4 hours non stop) with no problems at all. Yet when i arrived i turned the engine off then back on again to check it and after 6 seconds went back to the blank screen with fans whiring. Back to the drawing board, any ideas guys?
