X920BT Installation w/ PAC OS-4

Recommended Posts

I just received my Pioneer X920BT and PAC OS-4 wiring harness and am planning to install it in my 2007 Tahoe this weekend. I installed a Pioneer AVIC-D3, so I feel like I have some sort of experience with installation, but I'm a little confused about one thing: what do the RCA connections from the head unit connect to on the wiring harness, or do they not connect to anything? I remember having RCA connections between the wiring harness and the head unit on the D3 install, so I'm just not sure where to plug the RCA connections from the head unit. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

If you have aftermarket speakers/subwoofer/amp: use the rca cables, othwise stick with the standard speaker wires on the harness..

I have a factory Bose system (with factory amp). How do I connect the harness to the actual head unit? The only A/V connections on the head unit that I see are RCA ones and there are no RCA connection on the PAC OS-4.

On the power harness (black plug that hooks into the head unit) there are a bunch of wires coming off of it, 8 of which are for the speakers.. If you have the install manual it will explain it.. There are PDF files on this site that has the install for your particular radio..

Ok, thanks for the help. I checked out some PDF's. I'm guessing that I'll have to do some wire splicing to connect the head unit to the speakers? Maybe I bought the wrong harness. I think the Metra harness has RCA connections on it which would make this install much easier.

There's a sub-forum for "vehicle-specific wiring" just so you know...

But anyway, he was trying to explain in the earlier part of the thread that the Pioneer harness with the BLACK connector has the audio outputs, and that you don't have to use almost anything on the white RCA one unless you're trying to send audio to a bunch of aftermarket woofers, speakers, etc.

Also, you use it for the infamous "bypass" that everyone talks about in many threads on here.

Here's the wiring instructions for the unit that he was alluding to:

Thanks for that diagram but I've already looked through that. I know where every wire goes from the X920BT (i.e. 4 speakers, VSS, reverse, parking, etc.). My question specifically relates to the green/white Onstar wire coming from the PAC OS-4. What does that wire connect to on the unit? I don't see any green/white wires.

Hmm...I spent a few minutes Googling, and think I found guys who did pretty close to what you're trying to do...if not exactly.

First, I presume you have the OS-4 wiring instructions that came with it, right? I mean these....they seem to say the green/white wire goes to the steering wheel control (SWC) output.

Also, I think you already talked to this guy on these forums, right?

Anyway, here's a guy who used the OS-4 in an Enclave and says he had to wire green/white wire directly to the "BCM" in that vehicle?

Here's another AVIC/Tahoe install...is this you?

And here's a guy on another site who put an F-series AVIC into his Tahoe...says something about a Metra GMOS-LAN-02 adapter instead of the PAC one?

Thanks a lot for all the research/links. I appreciate.

Funny enough, I've already looked at all those sites. I still can't figure out exactly where to put the green/white wire though (The guy who hooked his up to the BCM, I think he is talking about a green/white wire off of the steering wheel adapters. Not sure though. Thanks again. I'll just keep looking.

Dude...

It took a little review of all the install material, but from what I can tell, you're not supposed to connect the green/white wire to the AVIC at all...I think that's why you can't find a place to put it.

Question #1: Is the green/white wire you are referring to the one coming FROM pin 17 on the OS-4's connector named "OS-RADPWRAUDIO" in the install guide (i.e., the connector where most of the other wires go to the AVIC)??

Question #2: Do you have steering wheel controls in the Tahoe?

If your answer to BOTH questions above is YES, then you're supposed to be using a steering wheel control interface such as the SWI-PS with your vehicle. The green/white wire goes to the SWI-PS...

If the answer to question #2 is NO, then you're supposed to wire it to a new single-pull, single-throw (SPST) switch you can put somewhere in the car (i.e., in place of an existing On Star button?) -- or wire it back to the existing On-Star switch if it's SPST.

1) No. The green/white wire I'm referring to is coming off of the OS-NAV connector. This connector also has VSS, parking brake, and reverse signal wires.

2) Yes. I do have steering wheel controls. I also have a SWI-PS.

If I don't connect this wire to anything, will I still be able to control the volume on Onstar? Maybe the wire going into the SWI-PS is what will control the volume and I won't need to connect the wire from the OS-NAV connector to anything. Any thoughts? Thanks so much for all the help.

Hmm...I wish you had said which one you meant in the original post! There are two green/white wires coming from the OS-4...!

Anyway, so I'm sure you already saw that the OS-4 instructions say that the green/white wire on the OS NAV connector is the "OnStar push button volume adjustment input"...

So...first guess is that you're supposed to just find the wire on the Tahoe-side where the On Star push button volume input comes off the steering wheel and wire it to that wire? Not sure yet where to find that...

I found a few posts of people who have taken off the steering wheel shroud in 2006 Tahoes to get to the SWC harness, but haven't ID'ed the correct pin or connector for you yet...assuming it's a Chevy harness you have to go directly to.

For example, here: http://www.tahoeforum.com/showthread.php?t=15561

Or, you may have to wire this to one of the connectors on the Body Control Module (BCM, that's where the Soundgate version of the SWI-PS wires to...see HERE).

Or, perhaps it goes to the OnStar VCIM module?

However, it may be you're supposed to wire that to something on the SWI-PS....hmm. Will look at it again later...
