superjorn Posted April 7, 2011 Report Share Posted April 7, 2011 im so sick and tired of outdated info and diy treads that are supposed to make everything easy, but allways tells me to just use the hacked EZrider or whatever so im going to ask a few simple noob quistions and hope someone will give me some short simple answers. im on a f900bt version 2.xxxxxxx euro 1. can i use the usa version to ugrade to 3.0? 2. will i lose my maps? 3. do i need to upgrade winCE beforehand? 4. what is EZrider and do i need it? 5. what is iGo and do i need it? whalepirot Posted April 7, 2011 Report Share Posted April 7, 2011 I have shared your frustration. The board's not as active as some others I frequent. At least you have more users of the 900 than the 500!. The testmode I found works has files dated 6/30/10. they are on bootable (flash, in my case) media, in a zipped folder, along with zipped MITACAP folder, both in the root directory. I did not lose, nor erase my maps. My unit runs WinCE; they all do, but continue booting into the applications the factory supplied. Booting from the media, as above, stops the process at CE. I suggest that you learn early, to backup the unit to a minimum 2gB card or such. On the 500, all is accomplished with the software that is showing on the CE desktop, accessed with a stylus. I have used a plastic pen-end and a toothpick. I learned through playing, to calibrate the screen, move files and bring up the keyboard. It took time. iGo is a factory application, that is the Nav software, if I am not mistaken. There may be new versions available and others will say which works with what version of CE, similarly as the hacks. For the F500BT, I opted to get the $99 Pioneer update, to 2010 maps and new firmware (4.0). It shows WinCE 5.00 I believe the FW version are numbered differently between F models and possibly also for US versus Europe. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I did contact Pioneer, but all they said was that the new firmware can be downloaded free of charge from their website. either he didnt understand my question about the 3.0 software or he was mistaken and believed i wanted the 2.0 one...:/ Im going to update to 3.0 no matter what. if i keep my maps, thats only a bonus:) Only thing im abit afraid of, is that when i in the future want new maps, it will be hard since there is so mutch talk about EZrider and some licence file...hopefully i can buy new maps from pioneer (since all the download links here are broken:( Quote Link to post Share on other sites
superjorn Posted April 8, 2011 Author Report Share Posted April 8, 2011 ok, my experiences so far: -took a bacup of everything inside the 'my flash disk' ( or whaterver it was called). couldnt find anything that looked like maps. -installed the 3.0 firmware and now i got the famous bootloop:( i think this has something to do with wrong maps and bad EZrider. couldnt find a new ezrider, but the one provided within the update claims to be a hacked one. do believe i have the right licence (worldwide something) i then deleted the maps in my new firmware and tried to replace them with some erupean maps i downloaded from som torrent site, ofcourse this didnt wrk lol:) my options now: 1. try to reinstall with anathoer EZrider, if i can find one 2. try firmware 3.1 3. buy maps from pioneer and hope that solves everything 4. get a hold of my old maps and use them Quote Link to post Share on other sites
superjorn Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 new update: the bootloop happens when u try to install a us firmware on a european unit.(because then u dont have the correct lisence and/or maps /and/or ezrider) didnt find new ezrider so i downloaded offisial 3.something software from pioneer....this did not work:/ tried do copy over my old bacup, but since wince had been upgraded this totally bricked my unit:(((( then i finally found the european firmware v 3.0003000 or something. this one did work! however i did not contain the wince upgrade, but since i allready had it from an us version i didnt need it. now my unit works perfect, i even had new maps:)! testmode was not included either but i found one on page 58 on the official 3.0 thread heres the link to the tread with the proper firmware: http://avic411.com/index.php?showtopic=23626 if any moderators would add "solved" in the headline, i'd be most pleased;) Quote Link to post Share on other sites
