Z130BT Preset Icon Nightmare!

Recommended Posts

I took the plunge and purchased a Z130BT for my Porsche 911 after lots of research. Great head-unit in many ways but it has one incredibly annoying flaw that I'm not sure I can live with. The Present Icons do not show the name or even number of the station for either HD Radio or Sirius. They just show Preset 1/Preset 2/Preset 3, etc. in the Preset list and, if you have a station already selected, on the right side toggle the even less descriptive P.1/P.2/P.3 etc. So, unless you decide to memorize all of your station locations, you'll be randomly running through your Presets each time you want to select a station. It's hard to actually believe the unit operates like this.

So, I e-mailed Pioneer hoping there would be a quick download upgrade available for such a huge, and obvious, flaw in the system. Here was their response: "This is not possible because the Sirius and HD are external components not built in the unit."

Really? Actually, the HD Radio IS built into and comes with the Z130BT. It's part of the product. And the Sirius tuner I purchased from my installer IS a Pioneer tuner that plugs right into the Z130BT for plug and play functionality. These are not aftermarket products that the Z130BT can't talk to but Pioneer's own products that come with their own head-units.

Apparently, for XM Radio, station names and graphic art are available for the Preset Icons from pictures I've seen but if you're a Sirius fan and also want to listen to HD Radio, you're out of luck here.

This is nothing new and has been complained about for both the Sirius and external HD tuners for three plus years now. Pioneer clearly didn't do anything different with the built in HD hardware from what they have done with the external tuner. This is probably not going to change over the life of this product sense they had the opportunity to do something with this unit and didn't. Good luck to you however.

I know the z130bt says that HD radio is built in, but really it's not. It's included, is what they should have said. It's a separate outboard device that plugs in between the antenna and the radio.

I agree about the issue though. If it cant memorize station names They should at least let you manually change the station names, instead of the word "preset".
