Just took the wife's 2007 Cadillac CTS back to Best Buys installers; not switching to night mode. The wife says use to switch to night, but I'm not sure. It definitely doesn't switch now (it is set to Auto).

The installer says there's no illumination wire in the harness, says the head unit won't use the wire, it uses the GPS location/time. I think he's feeding me a line of BS. Seen several posts about connecting to the parking break or ashtray light.

So what's the deal? Is he right?, no wire in the harness means the problem in with the unit's GPS not dimming, OR is HE just dim?

Thanks!

Your installer is a dope. The Z110/Z120 (and I assume the Z130 - but don't have one) do not use the GPS or clock to determine it is night, they use the Orange/White wire in the power harness that I believe has a tag that says "ILL" for illumination. Connect it to a 12VDC circuit that switches on with your lights - headlight, parking light, dash light (although there might be a problem due to the dimmer for instruments). I used headlights. Don't confuse this with the parking brake hack.

BTW, the HU doesn't "dim". It has a daytime brightness and a nightime brightness (each indiviually user adjustable). You can also make the night-time display "invert" (sort-of) to a dark map instead of white. I wonder if your problem is with the configuration?

Thanks for the info, I'm taking back to a different place to get it done right. Thanks again.
