OSUV
I know there are several posts about all of this but it seems that I'm having to read bits and pieces from various "Older Posts" and I'm not sure which procedures are outdated. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would please post step-by-step instructions as thoroughly as possible on how to change the AVIC-Z1 bootup screen, including where to buy the HDD unlocking software and any required hardware such as IDE cable etc. Also, can I do this using my laptop or do I need to use a desktop PC? If I can use my laptop, please make the step-by-step instructions geared towards using a laptop to change the bootup .bmp file in my Z1. Finally, can I unlock the hard drive permanently or would I have to pay everytime I want to change the bootup screen? Thank you in advance to whoever creates these instructions and again, please take your time and be as thorough a possible, keeping in mind that we're all not techies? ducatiboy
Read my second post in here: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2140 No a laptop won't work. Accessing the hard drive and unlocking it and keeping it unlocked has a perfect step by step walk through right here: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=728 The part you need for your desktop computer is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812203012 Then when you have access to your drive: Then before putting the drive back into the Z1, replace the OPENING.BMP file on the LDATA drive with whatever BMP you would like to (500x240 resolution). I don't think I can do it any better than Pulp did.
OSUV
Excellent Ducatiboy, I appreciate this a lot. One more question. Does the picture file have to be a bitmap file (.bmp) or can it be a JPEG file (.jpg)? I know that I can easily convert one to the other but I was just curious. The file in there is a BMP so the replacement I overwrote it with was a BMP. I don't know if you can use a JPG I never tried.
