drozovs
Is it possible to mount the GPS and XM antennas to the inside of the driver windshield? This would mean they would be upside down. Does anyone know if this would work?
aznsmartass24
Yes, I did that because I thought people tend to steal this antennas if you put them outside. My reception is almost full but it isnt as good as if it was outside.
drozovs
Does it make a difference if they are mounted sticky side up or installed "correctly" with the adhesive side facing down? Anyone know?!? Thanks! David
johul
"Does it make a difference if they are mounted sticky side up or installed "correctly" with the adhesive side facing down? Anyone know?!?" I can tell you I mounted my gps antenna under the dash as close to the windshield as possible. I stuck the base piece of metal on top of an a/c vent inside the dash and put the antenna on top. I have excellent gps reception. This is where Toyota places the factory nav antenna. The XM antenna I placed on top of the dash in the very corner on the passenger side where the windshield & pillar come together. Very unobtrusive and good reception. Hope this helps. drozovs
I really appreciate everyones replies. I am still curiouis though if I can mount the antenna on the windshield upside down with the stick side pointed up or will this still interfere with reception?
cntrylvr79
From what I remember when I was playing with mine mounting them upside down does worsen reception.
crease-guard
I placed both the GPS and XM antenna right on top of the AVIC unit. GPS works fine, no issues at all. XM cuts out when I'm driving North, so I'm going to reposition this most likely on my roof. Got a big truck so I doubt anyone will notice it there. Jay

RichFX4
I read most of the posts in the Z1 forum. I remember someone installing the antenna under the grill where the wiper arms are. Can someone help point me back to the post or others that might tell me how to mount the antenna there?
