UK F900BT No power please help!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am in need of desperate help!

I have a Pioneer AVIC F900BT, I had this unit fitted in my MK4 Golf for just under 3 years and it has served me well.

I recently bought a new car an Audi A3 so I removed the Pioneer in order to fit it into the Audi, I connected it up and turned on the ignition and the lights on the unit lit up and the start up screen displayed, I then turned the ignition off so I could tidy the wiring up before I pushed it into postion.

When I turned the power on again the unit seems like it has no power and the screen is just blank, no illumination or anything?!

I have a few wires on the harness that are not connected so I am just wondering if this may have something to do with it, please take a look and if you have any suggestions then they would be greatly welcome!!

TIA

If you got it to power up once then the install was mostly correct. Then as you adjusted the wiring to make it neat you probably knocked loose one of the power wires or the ground. I would check your harness connections. All those other wires arent necissary but useful. One is for back up camera, one is for speed sensor wire (gives more accurate km/h) one is if you need your car antena to power on like in cars where it has to rise up, one is a mute wire which we dont really need unless to do a hardwire bypass or need to mute your cars automated voice for incoming calls. The last is for your antenna I think, I am not familiar with an audi.

Somebody has just said this on another forum, does this make sense.....

"The problem you're gonna have now is there is no ignition source readily available on the audi thats easy to wire up the Red ignition cable to. The stereo should flick on and off when the key is in or out of the ignition. The stereo at the moment will only work via the permanent battery cable, you need an ignition source too. On a mk5 golf this can be taken from the power cable that leads to the heater controls but its not an easy job to do if ur not too mechanically minded. You can also access this power source from the fuseboard by finding the correct fuse for the heaters."

Yes... The avid has 2 power source wires one is a constant power( basically linked directly to battery, this I believe saves presets ect. Though I am not fully knowledgeable), the other is ignition ( like a light switch ). That tells the unit when to fully boot up. Since you aren't connected to the switched power it wouldn't know when to start up. For instance in my Jeep Wrangler I use a cheap wiring harness that doesn't tap into the Cambus so I use the switched power off of a lighter plug that only turns on when car is started. For constant I use the other that always draws power.

I would assume if you go on an Audi forum or the12volt.com you will get car specific info like wiring diagrams or proper wiring harnesses that might contain all the necessary wires you need including power sources and speed sensor wire.

At last resort take it to an install shop and pay the 200£ it's going to cost to have it done right.
