bestnavever
Hello Guys, I installed the x940bt in my 06 mustang conv. Everything is working great except for the gps function. I installed the antenna on top of the ground plane on top of the radio in the dash. The map position is way off, and I noticed I am only acquiring 1 or 2 sats most of the time. So I guess I will have to relocate the antenna with better line of sight. Any suggestions where any of you guys have had good results. And is the ground plane square all the necessary as it is now stuck to the radio, and I have no idea where to get another. Thanks, Semper Fi
ncmudbug
I have a Mercedes C230 and I have mine in the middle of the dash at the base of the windshield. There's a steel vent that it sticks to very nicely and the wire is almost completely hidden. The reception is pretty good. It will sometimes be off about fifty feet for a few minutes and then it will correct itself - obviously after acquiring that last satellite. It acquires satellites much faster than the Garmin we have. Good luck and thanks for your service!
bestnavever
Thanks for the info. And proud to have served with our nations finest. I solved the location issue. I moved the antenna from on top of the hu to a steel brace under the dash top a few feet to the right , next to the pass side vent. I did not use the little square ground plane, because it did not fit on the brace. The antenna sticks very well because of the strong magnet, and I zip tied it down for further stability. It is tight and secure, with nothing between it and the sky except plastic dash top, and windshield. It now regularly acquires no less than 8 to 10 sats. Has been very accurate now. autumnwalker
I have mine mounted under the dash right now below a thin piece of trim plastic - I find the GPS is not accurate for the first few KMs until it figures out the calibration. In my previous truck, I had the GPS receiver right on the dash and was always accurate. I'll be pulling my dash apart again to relocate the receiver above the dash.
