ducatiboy
These days a lot of that is more confusing than helpful, go here http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html (was also listed on the page bobmun posted) and just follow the 07/06 bypass (unless you manufacture date was Jule 06 and before). drozovs
I did the grounding smmtech recomends and mine works great! Is your unit refurbished? I would check the manuafacture date. The last batch 12/2006 sill allowed for the 3 ground wire trick.
ducatiboy
drozovs, actually it's only 2 wires which need to be grounded. And yes, the latest batches are still using that 07/06 bypass (I should have thought ahead and named it something more universal).
cntrylvr79
You knw ducati you might want to consider stickying a topic and locking it with the z1 bypass info so people can see it easily, without it ending up a 50+ page topic.
ducatiboy
Yah I really was thinking about doing this but haven't gotten around to it yet.
rmoral1
ducatiboy i did exactly as you said and grounded the parking brake wire and added the cellphone mute wire to the position you specified and i still have the problem. what else should i test? i just recieved the unit yesterday and it is brand new in box. ducatiboy
If I had to guess it's something with the cell phone mute wire you inserted into connector 2. Â If it's unlocked while parked and not while moving and you get the pop up message about the parking brake not hooked up right. Kill that error message by pressing the recessed button to the right of eject. Â If it still work work while in motion it's that wire in connector 2. Either it's not in all the way or a bad terminal on the end of the wire or you didn't ground it or something, but that's what you should focus on. That wire in connector 2. rmoral1
what is the routine used to reset the unit? should i hold the button down for 15 seconds or something and should i do it while the unit is running? thanks for your help
rmoral1
scratch that i fixed the issue. the reset cleared it upThanks for yalls help. Ducatiboy i have been meaning to tell you this, i noticed the ipod adapter for the z1 is identical in every aspect as the ipod adapter for alpine head unit that was relased just before the intorduced the intigrated ipod module to the head unit. the alpine module i have is just a slow as the z1 also. do you think there is a way to speed the ipod searching up by putting a ipod adapter from a different manufacture? cntrylvr79
The cables an stuff may be similiar between different manufacturers, the problem lies in the commincation languages different manufacturers use. They don't all use the same dataset so while they may plug into each other, they can't talk to each other.
