Russ
I've had a Z1 in my truck for about 6 months with no major problems. I have the steering wheel remote control interface, IPOD adapter, bluetooth, and backup camera installed (I have not correctly programmed the steering wheel remote yet). Recently, the screen has started behaving as if someone if constantly clicking it. The behavior usually begins about 5 minutes after startup (although it is not consistent). It always seems that the error is in the same portion of the screen ( roughly between the pause/ play and stop buttons while running DVD, but the behavior happens in all modes). The screen is clean, there is no obvious physical damage, and I've tried resetting the AVIC and realigning the screen. The only new environmental variable I can think of is that it has been colder than average here (~10-15 for the lows). Any ideas on the cause/ solution to his problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.
aznsmartass24
For sure 10-15F is below the ideal operating range, which in the manual says will affect the screen. Does this still occur when the heater in your car warms up everything?
djmixmac
So the screen moves slightly when you push down on it right? Causing the clicking noise? Maybe you can check the screen's opening and closing mechanism, loose screws or etc?
jmoney715
well when i was in Tahoe it was about -7 degrees and my avic z1 functioned fine. the vehicle was left outside as well.. just thought i would chime in with that. i second checking for loose screws. Russ
It doesn't make a noise. It behaves as if the screen is being repeatedly touched. The map constantly scrolls south-west, if the DVD is playing, it beeps and the stop button behaves as if it is being pressed over and over ets (meaning the same portion of the screen is affected regardless of the operation being used). I generally make short trips, so it never fully warms up to be certain, but it almost seems like the warming is when it starts (that could be coincidental). What I was looking for is something like a 3d calibration for the touch screen. I think I need to lower the touch threshold so it takes more energy for the system to sense a "touch". cntrylvr79
Do you have a steering wheel control interface installed in the vehicle?
Russ
I do have the steering wheel controller and it has some programming issues. Is this a documented side effect, or a hypothesis?
cntrylvr79
More of a hypothesis. Try disconnecting the interface from the avic. See if that takes care of your problem. If it does, then I would look more deeply into the wiring of the interface and the possibility that it's defective.
Russ
For anyone following this, I've tried all the combinations of accessory removal that I can think of. I sent the unit back to Pioneer (out of warranty since I bought it on Ebay) and they "aligned touch panel" (according to the receipt). I hope it was more involved than the user alignment I'd already tried several times! I reinstalled the unit, and had the exact same problem. I tried the unit connected with ONLY the main power (no accessories) connected and got the same result. I double-checked my power and ground connections, no change. Now I'm tying to contact Pioneer to return it yet AGAIN. I'll let you know if I get it resolved.
