GAMEOVER
So ive got a d1 and went to car toys to put the xm radio (not traffic) into my d1. I noticed immediatly after activating it that its not clear at all. Then i looked at the signal screen and it has no signal and no ID. So the next day I went back and they tinkered with it and said if i dont have xm traffic that the signal display doesnt work. Also they seemed to make it sound better and less static, but to me it still sounds a little less clear or the same as the reg. radio. I have the atenna mounted on top of the dash. Any help? aznsmartass24
the XM antenna needs to be outside of your car to get reception. There aren't many XM satellites so you need to get the best reception by putting it outside and on your car.
PaisanNYC
Yep, azn is right. The XM (and Sirius) antennas need to be mounted outside for optimal reception, especially those areas without terrestrial repeaters. XM and Sirius have 4 satellites each which isnt much compared to GPS having i beliebe 30 sats? It is that much tougher for Sat Radio to acquire good signals. Thats why it IS ok to have the GPS antenna inside the vehicle, and the XM/Sirius outside
cntrylvr79
Actually there's 24 gps satellites.
