synergyinc
I just traded my 04 silverado for a new 07. I figured the harness was the same and it is... just I am getting no vss signal. I tapped into it at the same spot just no luck. Anyone have the correct location? I tapped into it behind the cluster... thanks todd@toddjurek.com
cntrylvr79
Dk green/white either behind the cluster or at the radio harness. There's more than one dk. green/white wire behind the gauge cluster.
synergyinc
sorry, but it is not working like that. I called a local shop and they said they have had the same problem. I am supposed to call them monday...
cntrylvr79
WEll you can get it at the pcm, the same color. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is in the left front of the engine compartment to the left of the fan shroud. On gas models, the VSS wire is in the green plug, pin 50. On diesel models, the VSS wire is in the black 58 pin plug, pin 42. Never had a problem with te dozen or so I've done in the last few months. If those don't work you can get the new version of the metra gmos01. That gives you reverse, vss, parking brake, and illumination right at the radio harness.

del842
Dk green/white either behind the cluster or at the radio harness. There's more than one dk. green/white wire behind the gauge cluster. Does the same VSS wire color and location apply to a 2004 Silverado?

shotgun_customs
The VSS is pin A4, green/white stripe, behind cluster on 2000-2006. On the older models(2000-2002) you could also find it behind the radio. On anything newer than 03 the green/white wire behind the radio will not work. GM switched to a mic for ambeint noise controled volume and no longer used the speed sense. FYI if you disconnect the VSS from the cluster the speedo will not work, but your odometer will not gain miles either. That's why I love the speedo on the AVIC. Just don't cut the wire, you want more warranty not a voided warranty. PM for details.
cntrylvr79
I've used green/white at the radio harness in quite a few 03-06 gm trucks/suvs without a problem.
shotgun_customs
I looked at my notes and I believe GM did the switch in 05. But we like to keep all of our installs similar, so after I ran into problems w/ the VSS at the radio once, we caught it at the cluster from then on. Just as easy considering we were running wires that way for the ill, rev, and parking brake.
cntrylvr79
Makes sense. Then again, with the new os01 everything's right at the radio again. Love doing navi in gms with that thing.
