Gracenote???

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I wanted to know if anyone has figured out how to update the gracenote database. It doesnt read any of my new CDs. I cant get in touch with gracenote and pioneer is no help. Can someone tell when an update is coming or what I can do to fix this problem. It sucks typing in every name of every song when I record a cd.

Here's Pioneer's response to updating the CDDB:

The Music recognition technology and related data are provided by Gracenote. Gracenote is the industry standard in music recognition technology and related content delivery. For more information visit www.gracenote.com. You would log onto their website and obtain the information relative to the needed music (artist, title, etc.) and update your AVIC-Z1 manually from it's touch panel display.

You gotta love Pioneer!

From my post above, the only way to update it is to type in the names / titles manually.

Basically there is none. I would exepect an update with the MAP/OS updates provided by Pioneer, but that's not come out yet, so there is no way to tell for sure.

The best way to handle these CDs is to duplicate them with a CDDB-aware CD recording application that supports CD-TEXT (I use Nero 6). When you burn the CD, just select the "burn CD-TEXT info" option (or whatever your app calls it), and it will store the titles on the CD-R/-RW disc. Then you can rip that into the Z1, and it will store all of the information except genre (which, personally, I haven't found much use for anyway). One small caveat with this is that the voice recognition in the Z1 will not recognize CD-TEXT discs automatically, but I explain how to manually fix that in this thread.

This is a minor inconvenience, but it's an easy workaround; the CD ripping/recording software does most of the work, it beats entering the info manually on the Z1, and you also get mixed-case text instead of the upper-case only text that you're confined to when you enter the data directly on the Z1.
