Ducatiboy, I have a quick question

I am going to order the circuit from you in the very near future (as soon as I order the HU). I have purchased the Harness from Crutchfiled for my vehicle 2005 F-150, no factory sub. So when I ge the unit the first plan of action is to hook up the harness to the radio inside the house, so i can take my time and not screw it up. The question is can I install the "Ducatiboy Special" at the same time, does this circuit go in-between the HU and the Harness? or does it have to be installed while the dash is open?

But yes, I would recommend that you wire this all up inside sitting on a nice desk or bench with all the tools and heat shrink tubing all nicely laid out. It's much easier. All the connections will be on the harnesses provided. If you look at the instructions, you need to wire 12V switched from the car to the Z1 and also to my circuit (all red wires). You will need to hook up ground from the car, the Z1 and my circuit (all black). You will need to hook my circuit's orange wire to the ILL orange/white wire from the Z1 (it's orange with a white stripe and looks mostly orange). Then you need to wire my circuit's white wire to the ILLUMINATION wire from the Crutchfiled harness going to your trucks wiring.

Do that, leave the parking brake from the Z1 disconnected and that's it. It can all be done in the house and when you get outside just plug it all in.

You can eventually tie wrap my circuit to the wiring harness itself, but you might want to wait till you have it in the dash to see if you need a bend or so in the wiring harness. My circuit is small (2 inches long) and won't take up much room, so finding a place to tie wrap it to should be easy. But I generally make the electrical connections in the house and then when I'm installing I route the wires and tie wrap things together to make sure it's fitting correctly.

AWESOME Response, thank you so much. This site and yourself have been a deciding factor in me purchasing this HU, The unit itself is great, don't get me wrong, but when you have a resource like this, it is like a friendly and knowledgeable!! customer support center, which is rare!! Thank you.

You are welcome. Just double check that your harness from Crutchfield has an ILLUMINATION wire. It might be orange/white. Some do some don't it's the only "tough part" of my circuit install. Depending on the vehicle, and depending on the harness, that wire is very easy to get to and properly labeled, or sometimes it's not there at all. Some have a "Positive Dimmer" or just "Dimmer", in which case, if you are hooking my circuit up, you can hook the white wire to those as well (I tried to make it smart enough to hook to either). If those all fail some have needed to hunt down a wire that goes to 12v when the lights are on to hook my white wire to for the dimming of the Z1 when the lights go on. But I think the F150 might have an ILL wire right on the harness (if memory serves).

Well I just bought a new AVIC Z1 and the flash override switch and IT DIDNT WORK!! I had the shop double check all the wiring and it was installed correctly. The illumination worked on the unit and I left the ebrake ground wire off. The unit only worked on audio functions..Most of the setting buttons were grayed out and I could not perform any mapping address search functions. Had the installer remove the head unit and ground out the ebrake wire and ALL THE FUNCTIONS RETURNED to normal, even with the switch in place.

Any one else experience this problem with a new unit?
