X930BT Running ver 5.0 SW Android Lollipop - No Pandora

Recommended Posts

I've been running software version 5 and Bluetooth version 3.32 since last year and recently my Samsung Galaxy S5 updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop and now the Pandora doesn't work. The head unit starts the app on my phone but no sound from the radio. Confirmed the unit isn't looking for a wired connection.

Thoughts??

Also... My iPod 7th generation connects fine but you can't hear any music.

Thoughts on that??

I've had problems too. Sometimes Pandora works, most of the time it doesn't. Not sure if we can blame Pioneer since it worked fine when my phone had Android 4.x. I'll watch for chatter on Android dev forums (XDA) and see it there's other problems/fixes reported. BTW, I have a Nexus 5 running v5.1 (rooted).

AFA iPod, I thought it had to be wired (not BT). Apple has always had problems with their BT stack not supporting all the needed protocols. I could be wrong - not an iAnything fan. (although I still use an old iTouch wired in my car).

Update:

Today I checked Pandora while running a short errand to the hardware store. I had rebooted my Nexus 5 since my previous attempt last week. So any residual processes were cleared out. This time I waited about 60 seconds after starting the car so the phone was already BT connected. When I switched from iPod source to Pandora It worked perfectly.

But after leaving the store it would not resume with the Pandora audio connection. So I switched the AVIC source (to iPod) for about 3-5 minutes, then switched back to Pandora - it resumed Pandora audio playback. This reminded me that my biggest problem seems to be resuming Pandora after a shutdown. It works much better if I resume with a non-BT audio source - then switch to Pandora after the phone connects and things settle down.

RonS, It seems lollipop has the newest Pioneer BT firmware baffled as far as how to treat this modern BT stack. I had bluetooth audio working on Lollipop but had no pandora app with 4.0 firmware. After deciding to make the jump, I switched to 5.0 firmware and now my phone will not stream media audio. My girl's 4.4.4 KitKat S4 works just fine on the new bluetooth firmware. I can't find an easy way to jump back to KitKat, and with the forum having minimal activity, I doubt I'll figure out how to downgrade the head unit back to 4.0 firmware where Lollipop bluetooth media audio worked, but that's what I'm going to try to do. One or the other has to happen. I've yet to figure out if downgrading the bluetooth firmware on the HU would be an option. Every time I select Pandora as a source, my phone says "Pandora Accessory" and starts blaring music from my stupid little phone speaker. It's enough to want to smash something.

It's pretty easy to install the BT firmware on the HU - without reverting everything back to 4.0. You just need the previous upgrade SD. Copy just the FIRMWARE directory to another SD.  Then manually install the old firmware from Settings/Bluetooth.

Not sure if there will be other side-effects, but if so - just load the current one again.

Since I primarily use my old iPod for music, I haven't been annoyed enough to dig into this. But yes, things got much worse with Lollipop.  Since you are running a custom ROM, I don't see why you couldn't find a KitKat based one. There should be several around still.

On my Nexus 5, I'm running the stock factory release - rooted. If it bothered me a lot I'd just load the KitKat 4.4.4. It's still on the google web-site. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images. I guess you have an S4, I don't know where you'll find images for that.

There are a ton of old roms, but I had to upgrade the bootloader to the new OD2 just to run lollipop. Now I'm stuck with the knoxed boot loader. I had MF9 with the sim unlock originally. I'm going to try the firmware downgrade on the head unit first. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it doesn't brick my new deck... if it will even take the downgrade. I'm thinking one of the other will stop me somehow. I usually wait until the weekend to play with my phone because something always breaks and I need it for work, but the girl and I are hitting up the casino in CT for her Birthday this weekend so it'll have to wait if the first 2 options fail. Her and I are spending a lot more time together these days. Radio just isn't what it used to be. I still can't believe old bluetooth firmware got along better with this new android OS. Guess I'll give it a try and let you know what I find. Maybe someone else finds this issue and needs to fix it. At the cost I got my z130bt for, I might just buy 2 more for the other two vehicles.

EDIT: Just put the 2012 3.23 firmware on the radio. It still won't give me a checkbox on media audio when I use pandora as a source, but using bluetooth audio works just as before I did the update. I'll mess around with it a little more and just keep the phone close by. Finally, I can hear my music again without 40 cords draped over the seat and dash. I'm going to try and get a logcat from yesterday over to a developer that can take a look at it. Maybe he can figure out why lollipop doesn't like pioneer.

Any update to this issue?  I have been having the same problem ever since I upgraded from the Galaxy S4 to the Note 4 last October. No audio from my car speakers, only from the phone speakers.
