imazephed
I wanting a reasonably priced nav unit that operates nicely as a digital media receiver. Mainly what I want is to be able to hook up say 240gig ssd full of my audio in flac then navigate it intuitively from the touchscreen. I want to have my music organized in folders by artist or album or genre or some combination of them all. The other things like on screen gauges and stuff probably are not in my truck anyway (2012 silverado LTZ) so they are not of much importance to me. I really want a gps that works well with a ton of flac files that I can navigate easily with a nice file system that is easy to use to locate songs that will play randomly also would be nice So am I looking at the right unit or should I look elsewhere. I would also like my steering wheel controls to operate all the functions they did on the oem unit if possible. I have a cheap digital kenwood head unit in my work truck that has a usb that takes a flash drive and uses software called kenwood media light that works ok. Its nothing fancy and could be way better but it suffices especially considering it was less than a hundred dollars. I would hope a unit costing more than ten times as much would function much better than my sub hundred dollar unit.
imazephed
I was really hoping someone here had experience with this as I am looking to purchase a unit in the next week. I hate to take a shot in the dark with this and then find out that it wont fill my needs. No one here have this unit and is using it to play flac files off a ssd that can share with me how it performs in this function?
rockthebeef
I don't have experience with FLAC files on a large SSD (I've only used small USB sticks). But if you need some information sooner rather than later... http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=Pioneer+NEX+flac+SSD
imazephed
Thanks there is some info there that helps for sure. I am on the fence about the 7200 or the 8200 or possibly a kenwood DNX773S. I wish there were a competent car audio place around my town so I could go put my hands on a unit before buying one. I would like to see how the menu looks how it is organized and how easy it is to navigate flac flies on a ssd. I would also like to see how fast it is. My luck there is a ton of lag while changing tracks.
onebyside
My 8000 plays Flac off a 128gb ssd as it should..very well. The gps works as a gps should. I would assume the newest model does it all aswell.
imazephed
Onebyside thanks for taking the time to respond. I am curious how the menu lays out as far as your flac files goes. Is it very customizable? Can you organize your files in folders by artiest or album or however you wish? Is there software with the unit to build your library with on the ssd or do you just set it up on your pc in windows then plug it in the the back of the unit? How do you scroll though the songs on the ssd? Is it like a cell phone where you scroll with your finger on the touch screen? Sorry for all the questions but I know exactly what I want I just cant find a video or web site showing if the units do what I want. I hate to buy something only to find out that its nothing like what I wanted.
