Anyone that actually has a Z3...

POST A PICTURE of the rear of the box... Lets compare differences

i concur :)

So by your logic, the Z2 really should've been called the Z1-07 right? Afterall, the only thing that changed was the software installed on the hard drive? The rest is the same except for the model number silk screened on the front

Same thing on the Z3. Different software, new model number. Thats how they sell more of them

Annoying? Agree. But if it's strictly a map update then I don't agree that it should be given a new name. Simply calling it a Z2-08 would clarify that nothing has changed but the map.

I suspect that more than just the map has changed (as in Z1 to Z2) and would love to hear from someone who actually knows what he's talking about to find out what it is.

----It would bring this thread back from "annoying".

No, because if you look in the update manual:

update manual, pages 10 and onwards, you can see there are at least 8 pages full of OS updates, whether you count them significant or not, like addition of lowercase keyboard, speech recognition for phone book, different map views, whole load of additional voice commands etc.etc.

f.i I also have a Garmin GPSMAP60. It does not become a GPSMAP65 just because I update the map software.... Nor does a D3 become a D4 because I updated the map... Basically, if I buy a Z2, I would expect it to contain the latest available map software at that selldate anyway !.

Anyway, the point to all of this is that if there realy is a new Z3, I would automatically expect it to have more then just a map update, otherwise it should not be called a Z3...

Sorry for the delay as i was a little busy this weekend. Here are the pictures as requested. The Z3 looks the same as the Z2 as far as i can tell. I will let you know the differences once it is installed this week as i do have the Z2 in my other truck.

P.S. Sorry i did make the pictures as small as i could before they would not have been usefull.

Boys, is this a DIN 4 unit or what? I don't suppose they make them in a slide in/out unit?

My installer say it won't fit in my Excursion and I dont really like my Kenwood all that much

Its a double-din. If your installer can't make it fit in an excursion, you need to find a better installer

I might as well close the FTP down with the Z3 appearing on the scene

IF someone gets a Z3 image they want to put up to share, PM ME, I'll open the FTP back up, I KNOW there's going to be a LOT of people out there wanting a Z3 as opposed to a Z2

when do you think we will know whats new/different in the z3?

Posted Mar 25, 2008 · 17:19 UTC#66

Inferno, think you're guilty...!

Just think about the 3 people on the server right now grabbing a Z2 image 8)

IF we can get a rip of the drive, I'm sure within a cople of days, there's going to be LOTS of reviews

I think the bigger issue is to know if the Z3 image disables the by-pass. I'm working to get the image to do some testing. If all goes well, we'll get it on the forum ASAP!

I've got a security-disabled drive at my disposal (as most on here)

Just need the raw files... BRING IT ON

I'm patiently waiting to see if the bypass works the same on the Z3 before I replace my stolen unit. I have to wait on the claims team at AAA anyway. I sure miss my z2 and it's only been gone since sometime this morning.

Yeah, we'll all be going back to the headlight flasher 8)

I put one in yesterday and the 2-wire bypass worked for the few blocks we test drove it. I will call him in a couple days and see if its still working after its calibrated

Nice! Are the 3-D graphics that much better? Did you guys try and use the voice recognition with the music files (i.e ipod playlists, am/fm, etc.)? I can get a Z3 on ebay for $1300 right now. I'm thinking I might just do that. If the bypass holds and everything. All the peripherals should work with the Z3 too, right? I mean the back of the unit looks identical to the Z2.

Will the current Z3 on eBay be a correct indicator for the going rate of Buy-It-Now prices to be around $1350 (for a standalone brand new unit)? Does anyone know what the retail price will be?
