I posted this in General too, but didnt seem to get a reply so maybe wrong forum part - i'll try here :)

Is this possible?

I have done alot of reading which confirmed my confusions when i couldnt get Voice Control on my Euro (UK) model F900BT and it sounds like it doesnt have the feature?

Can we perhaps just take the files that refer to the voice control from the US model and add it to the Euro files maybe?

Let me know your thoughts

(Great forum BTW)

I've been thinking about it too , whilst editing the graphics I stumbled upon the VC icons , so I assume the software is in there , it's has probably something to do with a stiing in one of the .res files

Hi

I believe our Aus model is the same, when I first brought my AVIC f900bt I didn't realise it didn't have the Voice Control, no mention on the website or anything, The voice control was one of the things that drew me to f900bt, I was really unhappy when I found out we didn't have the voice control on our model, especially seeing we probably pay more to purchase this unit compared to other countries. I rang pioneer to ask if this was just a software update and will we get the voice control in a future update and they said no, the US model also has hardware differences as well, I really hope they are wrong.

Goog, glad its not just me. I bought mine thinking it had it too, because all the promotional videos had it on (which is annoying)

Hopefully we will get someone who is used to hacking this unit and can give us some guidence.

ummm well i know the US firmware has quite a few files that are missing for you eu guys, I could upload the ones your missing and just try and place them in the correct directorys and see what happens?

heres a list of the files the update AVIC_F700BT_AVIC_F900BT_APL_1900 doesnt have compared to the US update

Cool, thanks for these... do any of them relate to the Voice Control?

I can see the MSN Direct and mainly things that seem to relate to navigation? also mine is upgraded to Version 002000 from the latest Firmware upgrade (initially thinking that was my Voice Control probs.. then i read here)... will it 'brick' the unit if i update some files to older versions?

Perhaps it is a hardware thing? Does anyone have any idea what the hardware differences are between US and EU?

heres a list of the files the update AVIC_F700BT_AVIC_F900BT_APL_1900 doesnt have compared to the US update

LPUE080\APL2\iGo\data.zip\ui_pioneer\common\

variable_def.ui

Weird, these are _all_ the UI files that make up iGO interface. It will not work at all without any of them...

I have just checked the new data.zip that i got with my latest firmware update and it does have all these files.. however they are further into the directory system on the EU:

data.zip\ui_pioneer\common\ui\

If i have an un-modified unit, can i just modify the data.zip from the Firmware update instead of having to take the one from the unit? or will it be customised by the change of splash screen and button colours i have done from inside the menus? (because i would prefer not to have to do all that again) :D

Great work here guys... really love forums like this for pieces of hardware like we have invested in... its most of the fun! :D :D :D

These files are only needed in the /common/ui subfolder. For whatever reason, Pioneer duplicated them in /common itself, but they do not need to be there.

DATA.ZIP from the firmware update should be the same as on the unmodified unit.

I did some reading :)

The US manual says you have to put the unit in English (US) program language in order for voice control to work .

The european units contain all european languages (dutch , german , french , ....) and english (UK) and its little appendix down under (English AU)

So I reckon if we somehow put English (US) on it it might just work ...

I wonder... If you look, in test mode, in My Flash Disk\APL2 -- do you have МИЕ folder, right next to iGO? I think this is where voice control software is...

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 21:08 UTC#13

in the APL2 folder I only have iGo and VBT folders

Interesting thread this. Hopefully it will pan out.

While trawling for other files, completely intent upon a completely different mission I stumbled across the Voice operation software imbedded in there somewhere. I live in Norway, so I'm guessing I have the same firmware as the rest of Europe, in spite of residing outside the Great Union.

Unfortunately I can't remember where I saw it, but look for the phrase: VoiceBox. This is the name of the company who makes the Voice operation software for Pioneer and I found it or an abbreviation of it in one of the filenames in there somewhere.

Hope this may be of some help :)

I came across this :

\My Flash Disk\APL2\IA\

my european unit hasn't got the IA directory , do the US units have this ?

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 21:31 UTC#16

In the DATA directory is a file named VCInfo.dat

can someone with a US unit and working voice control please open this in notepad and see what the text you get says ?

Mine says

LPEW1-1-C

This contains EW , the indication we're dealing with an european unit I think

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 21:50 UTC#17

I meant VBT -- it has IA.EXE, so if you have that you might actually have the voice control software...

VBCInfo.DAT for US-spec А-90 has:

LPUC1-1-C

Other interesting notes -- Bluetooth is MiTAC/Mio.

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 22:13 UTC#18

wow, excellent progression guys... fingers crossed we can get something Pioneer should have never taken away from the great 'United States of Europe'!!! :D8)

Edited to say: Really appriciate the efforts as well, top work.

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 22:15 UTC#19

Out of curiosity -- what does the Euro-spec А-series do when you press the joystick?

Posted Sep 29, 2008 · 22:23 UTC#20

It just makes a 'Denied' kinda beep... sounds like space invaders when you shoot. :D

nothing else happens

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 04:12 UTC#21

ohhh well i downloaded all updates from the pioneer website and compared them side by side and thats why i saw those files were missing dunno why its like that its just what i noticed so sorry i was wrong there my bad

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 04:17 UTC#22

Aha... Interesting... So at least the system recognizers that you've pressed the button.

US-spec AVIC has a bunch of speech or voice files tagged US, so it _might_ be a software solutions...

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 04:24 UTC#23

when I press the multifunction button whilst in FM mode it does a seek to the next radiostation . In all other apps it beeps

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 06:07 UTC#24

VBCInfo.DAT for US-spec А-90 has:

LPUC1-1-C

The UC here denotes US+Canada while Europe is identified with an EW (not EU!). So LPEW1-1-C means Europe. The thing is, I think location ID is also hardwired into the unit. I discovered this while trying to open WinCE and had to change a setting in the MapDBInfo.txt file.

You may know this already, but if not... now you do :)

So i wonder if the unit would work if we added these voice files from the US? Must be some DLL's for it as well in there i guess?

The thing that concerns me / makes me wonder if it perhaps isnt possible is the fact that no-one has managed to boot a US model into EU mode yet by the sounds of it... so im assuming their must be some sort of hardware (or a very hidden software file in Windows CE) that is halting this.

From the limited time i have spent on this forum (only had my unit on order for under a week and installed last sat) its fairly clear that we have some very talented programmers/hackers... so if you guys cant do it, then its probably not possible! :D
