no-one has managed to boot a US model into EU mode yet by the sounds of it... s

A thought here is that there are completely different map-sets installed on UC and EW units. Could WinCE be using the map-sets to ID location of unit? Does the VoiceBox software require you to have UC map-set to work?

I see in the firmware update that there's a winCE bin file :)

So maybe we first need to upgrade the windows core

another thing : in europe we pay 999 euro for the F700BT , that's $ 1400

Amazon.com sells it for less than $700

And in Norway it costs even more.... :(

I think it must be possible to just back up a EU unit and restore it in a US unit . It's only a windows program :)

That way we can sell our expensive EU units and get some cheap US ones :)

Anybody looked at this variable in the VoiceBox.cfg file?

;UseHandsFree = N

Or for that matter tried running the Voice Box exe file from WinCE on a European unit?

I feel like we are on the edge of progress... (im gonna dig my $1400 receipt out and spend $700 with Amazon if we can get US version to work with EU maps!)

Where is this 'Enable Handsfree' command? that seems like the most logical thing to try to start with.

LPUE080/APL2/VBT/Speech/VoiceBox.cfg

Goto the bottom. It's the last variable...

try just running the exe file as well and see what happens. It's in the same folder: VBTEngine.exe

the instruction has a ; so it is not processed (; means REM )

Ok so that's clear but what can be the command to get this process to work??

Or do you think thats not the only thing??

I am willing to try some things out.

Well, in order for VC to work you must chose English (US) as program language . I reckon it sets a flag somewhere when English(US) is chosen ...

Is it possible for someone with the US version to share the files (only program stuff , not the maps ) via ftp or rapidshare or whatever ?

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 16:32 UTC#38

What does the system.ini of a US unit look like ?

\USER\UserData\iGo\save\system.ini

can someone with US version post this file ?

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 16:52 UTC#39

I have compared the voicebox.cfg file with the US update version and EU update version and they are the same.

all beginning with ;.

Yes i know that's what they've told me also at the Pioneer helpdesk in the Netherlands.

But i can't choose US. only UK. But i think the voices are allready on the machine. Because of voice names i don't regonize in normal operating mode. But do see in boot mode.

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 17:18 UTC#41

anyone think they would upload a full unedited flash backup? i would like to be able to compare the full backups side by side instead of the updates :/

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 17:22 UTC#42

Come on guys , post these US backups :)

You can leave the maps out cos I'm not intending to drive across the atlantic :P

Posted Sep 30, 2008 · 19:44 UTC#43

I tried to add the US language and voices , but I cannot select them . I put them in the same dir as the other language / voice files

Apparantly it checks something before letting me choose them

but what ... :)

I was hoping there would be a hint to the VC ... sadly there isn't any :(

thanks anyway

Posted Oct 01, 2008 · 19:38 UTC#46

Hmm, well where do we go now then?

It sounds like the key to this is to get the English US option set, however the EU units arent allowing us to select them meaning their must be something somewhere telling them not too.

Thanks for making it easy Pioneer, we only paid £700.00 for this unit to find you disabled the best bits!:roll:

Very unlikely. system.ini is purely for iGO, and VC is separate software...

Posted Oct 01, 2008 · 20:17 UTC#48

yes, but I'm looking for clues .

What happens if a US unit is in navigation mode and you push the multijoystickbutton ? (the hardware button on the left)

In our EU units it says the next command

Don't US units use this to initiate VC input ?

Posted Oct 01, 2008 · 20:43 UTC#49

Spoke to the guy who installs for my dealer today. I told him I was sadly surprised that it wasn't voice enabled. He told me I wasn't missing out on anything. He'd seen a demonstration of the VoiceBox sotware and he said it was a mess...

Do any of our american friends have any opinions on this?

Besides this, I posted to this thread earlier on that I think the unit may have our location hardwired. If the software checks that we're not going to get anywhere... Anybody know if this is the case?

Posted Oct 01, 2008 · 20:51 UTC#50

Yes, it brings up the VC screen.

I suppose you could try adding a button to one of the screens that does EXEC command -- that does let you execute external executables.

That might at least tell you if VC is missing something or not...
