UPDATE: VIDEO HERE >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVdBRNmp_QA

I will install the P20 later today and will post my complete review of it here after I'm finished. I picked it up from Al's and Ed's ($102 w/AAA discount) and immediately saw that on the back it states that Itunes tagging is NOT compatible with the F series (see pic) so thats a bummer, heres a few pics for you while I get it installed....

Lol I love how they advertise the iTunes Tagging as a big feature while it only works on like 2 of the 50+ compatible radios.

Any word yet? does it display the channel info??? I'm itching to pull the trigger on this.

I picked up the 10hd for $61 from Amazon last month. Didn't notice the 20hd...is there a difference? Just curious...

I figured for that little I might as well try it. Funny thing was it's the HD AM that was my inspiration! It's great for news radio, games etc.

cronerd,

did you get it installed? How long of an IP-bus cable does it come with?

Thanks

Ravi

so does the gex-20hd still cut audio out from analog to digital every 30 seconds? my gex-10hd does and i cant keep the setting on digital bc its very annoying. the only reason why i have it hooded up is because i get station information on it.

pioneer is a load of crap. as expensive as they are trying to sell the units ($1200 retail) they should put out a fw update to enable itunes tagging! what the hell are they thinking??? i really like the unit but cmon pioneer, get your act together!

So do we have a review yet? :?:

I'm still watching this thread too, I hope it's good news...

I did get a response to my PM from cronerd on this subject.

He did get it installed. He was trying to put together a video review. Hopefully will post it soon.

Does any one know any differences at all as far as functionality is concerned between the 10hd and the 20hd.

I really want to install one and only the 10hd are readily available and they are around $60.

hey guys I'm just finishing up the video, since I dont know what the P10 was like I was wondering if some of you guys could SEND ME YOUR MAIN COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE P10 SO THAT I CAN SHOW IF IT IMPROVED OR NOT IN THE VIDEO , THANKS

I personally own AVIC-F900BT and I think the main problems with the P10 is..

1) presets do not work or show any text

2) no text showing the name of the song, artist or station

I've noted before that I've had my P10 connected to two other HUs (FH-P8000BT, DEH-P7000BT) besides the F90 and it worked perfectly - including preset info and song info. The issues aren't in the tuner - it is in the F-series.

The name of the song and artist do show up, you just have to hit 'disp' to scroll through them. That's a lot of fun when you're driving. I personally think that there should be enough lines of data to show it all at the same time.

cornerd,

While you are working on the video review, can you post if any of these have been addressed ? Or almost all of them still present?

Thanks for doing this for us.

Hey guys,

I just have to pick mine up this Monday. I will let you guys know how it works with the P4100DVD. I have an idea how bad the P10 was and I will tell how the P20 stands up.

Posted May 18, 2009 · 00:07 UTC#17

I also want to know if the 210 fixes the 110 problem of

1. not showing Track name and artist w.o having to scroll

2. Not saving preset channel names - as in it was just a blank line.

Thanks

Any update on this? I am about to return P10HD and get the P20HD. If the new unit fixes all the problem, it will be great.

I spoke with Pioneer (took them 30 minutes to figure out), and was told that P20HD has RDS and iTunes Tagging feature. The guy couldn't tell me what RDS was. :-(

Let us know if the 20HD does correctly display all the channel/song info and correctly shows the preset info.

OK guys,

After playing with my P20, it seems that it has the same issues as the P10. Also I have the P4100DVD so other headunits may not have the same problems as mine. It will not do the channel preset or do iTunes tagging. It does scroll the radio station and name of the song as long as I am within reach of the HD signal. If I am not in range, it orks just like the regular radio. The radio station name and song title scroll at a little bar at the top.

So in my opinion, the P20 is not worth the money I spent on it. If I could do it all over again, I would not have purchased it.

Thanks for the report.

I am surprised that Pioneer didn't bother to fix the issues. I was about the return my P10HD, but, at this point would just keep it. I was hoping the new "RDS" feature would give me all the information i am supposed to get. Even my 2002 dodge does that on FM.

I don't think it is the P10 or P20 unit itself that doesn't work. I believe it is more of how the headunit works with the add-on device. Many people stated that it works on other radios but as we all know it doesn't work on the F-Series units. It has to be the firmware that interacts with each device. Did Pioneer take the time to make it fully functional... not so much. :(

Yea sounds like its got to be our radio.

Thanks a lot for the update.

I know this is ever so slightly off topic but...

I just recently(yesterday) installed the GEX-P10HD, and i was pleasantly surprised when the first station i tuned to switched right in to digital mode and stayed there. I had held off on buying the tuner for several reasons(one of which was the news of a new one, and the other was quality control issues.) but when i heard that the new one did nothing new i figured i would save some money.

Really i think that the only con for the unit is the Presets labels...it really is driving me nuts. And there is absolutely no excuse for this. Pioneer made the HU and commissioned the HD tuner...why the hell is there a software incompatibility...it is the one thing that pioneer can keep right under their nose and they still blow it.

Posted May 22, 2009 · 14:16 UTC#24

So besides the name is there a difference between the GEX-P10HD and GEX-P20HD?

Posted May 22, 2009 · 18:45 UTC#25

doenst sound to be a difference besides name and price.

Another thing to add to the HD Radio Preset wish for me is to have scrolling Artist/ Song info, dont like to have to hit the button.
