I wonder if the firmware for EU is compatible with US units?

Posted Jun 12, 2009 · 17:00 UTC#3

I would wait 24 hours and see if something appears on Pioneer the US site, when ver 2.5 was released on the EU site it was not posted on the UK site because the changes mainly affected german TMC users, or Pioneer don't consider the UK to be in the EU :-).

This time the firmware is also posted on the UK site and mentions stability improvements in addition to German TMC updates so maybe there is more to this one than they are making public, I am just going to upload it into my EU F900BT I don't expect I will notice any immediate difference but my curiosity compels me to do it.

I am sure we all are very interested in how the unit performs after you install the update, please keep up posted. :D

Ok just done the update, i did notice the on screen load prompts that let you know what is being transferred indicated that the CE operating sytem was being updated, I noticed lots of new CE files being tranferred.

The start up time is the same before and after, no noticeable difference so far in the way the sytem operates or in speed of operation.

The update reset my modified map shcheme colours to Pioneer Blue day and red day, I tried to put my own sheme back in and the test mode file I had previously used no longer works.

Wow, so right now, loading 2.7 = dead end with no improvements? :?

Posted Jun 12, 2009 · 17:39 UTC#8

Title of this thread should read Version 2.007

I wouldn't expect anything notable in such a low number bump.

From the Updates File:

Ver. 2.007000

- Solved problem on Polish on-screen keyboard

- Solved reboot problem after receiving specific TMC data in Germany (area information is displayed correctly)

- Improvement of system stability.

Looks to be that way, I am dissapointed now because I had the map scheme just right for my preference, I now have to suffer the silly Pioneer scheme which shows minor roads as white on a light grey background, this makes them almost impossible to see. I had modified the borders of the roads to be outlined in black which made the easier to see.

Sorry about the title, forgot how picky people can get on the internet, posting the link was my priority, won't bother in future.

Posted Jun 12, 2009 · 18:47 UTC#11

That is such a shame they couldn't get it right. :(

Posted Jun 12, 2009 · 19:38 UTC#12

Why are they even bothering with this if the 3.0 update is just around the corner?

Posted Jun 12, 2009 · 19:42 UTC#13

I think one of their reasons is to block the use of Test mode as route to customising the unit, test mode no longer works, this would in fact make sense in advance of Ver 3 being released, it may be an attempt to protect Ver 3 and the new maps from being shared.

Posted Jun 13, 2009 · 00:21 UTC#14

I doubt it'll be long after 3.0 release that test mode gets outs again.

Thats b***s Brian

You should give your man some credit Wrathernaut, thanks to Brian we know about the changes Pioneer made. And by checking out the update Brian paid the ultimate price.

I appreciate the testing as much as anyone here. Now we're all aware that 3.0 will almost assuredly lock out testmode.

2.007 would be expected for bug patches, whereas 2.7 is expected to be most of 3.0, with some changes missing (like new maps).

The title should really be

"BE AWARE THAT ALL FUTURE FIRMWARE UPDATES (no matter how minor) WILL VERY LIKELY LOCK OUT TESTMODE"

Posted Jun 13, 2009 · 22:47 UTC#17

this update from WinCE TESTMODE blocks! now he no longer wants to boot!

Hello everyone,

I am new here, great site, found a lot of usefull information. I own an F700BT eu version and I too installed the 2.7 version and before I installed my Cyprus maps an the unit and I am stuck :( I emailed Pionner but I am not hopping for much. I thought though. I am pretty sure the firmware update is using some sort of script transfer the files to the unit. Can we modify that and use it to transfer our own files?

I know this is a shot in the dark but is it possible to downgrade?

Posted Jun 14, 2009 · 09:47 UTC#20

me too I'd like to make a downgrade, but the only known way is to use TESTMODE, but with the new WinCE no longer boot.

Posted Jun 14, 2009 · 10:23 UTC#21

So no 2.007 updating for me, i like the testmode to much!

Why does pioneer do this, why kill the joy of fiddeling around with this product, it is one of the reasons i bought it anyway!

Posted Jun 14, 2009 · 10:26 UTC#22

Another thought, what if we switched the files that define the version of the firmware from the 2.7 to a lower one? would that work? or would it mess out the system?

Posted Jun 14, 2009 · 10:32 UTC#23

Some people state that it has to do with the wince update. A solution could be not updating the wince, but i give no garantee for this!

Posted Jun 14, 2009 · 10:49 UTC#24

My Guess is that Pioneer is protecting the potential sales revenue they could get from the sale of the new maps when they come out, without this protection people are free to get them from another source FOC.

Yep, i believe what you say is true, but when the prices of these updates are to high, people will find other ways...

The word spreads around about 280 euros in europe, which is about 400 dollars.....
