It is because you are not using the hacked ezrider

I will try to simplify this

1) I updated the WinCE version via the instructions here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=25424&p=172862&hilit=service+menu#p172862 EXCEPT I choose the update WITHOUT formatting option.

2) Using the new testmode 2.3, moved the old APL to APL.bak, and copied over the 3.0 version

3) Crossed fingers, reset

4) Booted! So far I haven't found any problems - some of the menu items are like in the 3.0 screenshot tour viewtopic.php?t=25031 , basically the non-NAV related items (bluetooth call screen, for example)

5) Its still runing iGo 8.0, since I didnt replace the APL 2 folder. Gonna try replacing that next.

1: Update WinCE version but not quite like http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... nu#p172862 tells you. You use the WinCE update from the 3.0 X Series update from the Pioneer website not the one from that thread. Update without format option and after you update you skip everything after on that thread because it tells you how to do a full recovery not just a update.

on a side note to that thread to enter service mode you hold down Menu,Map,Eject then tap reset and it seems to go right into service mode (blue screen that says push reset) Instead of pushing reset you then put in the code from that thread.

2: Using the new testmode 2.3, moved the old APL to APL.bak, and copied over the 3.0 version

3: Inside the APL 2 folder replace the ezrider file with the hacked ezrider from this thread http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25289 otherwise you may get stuck at "system loading" and maps will not work. Everything else in the APL2 folder stays the same until the new iGo is hacked.

I hope this helps. I am quite happy so far to have menus that respond when i push them now. I just bought my unit last week from Best Buy and was quite upset i would have to pay 60-100$+ just to update my brand new system. I would love to get new maps too but i am pretty happy with the results so far. Next i think i am going to see if i can get rid of those annoying Caution screens after this update.

Thank you for the clarification!

Don't suppose anyone found the files for the F500BT, since there is no X equivalent for it. :(

Does the software mod still work on 3.0, can someone please confirm? i.e. my handbrake wire is grounded, but I also have the software mod... Just want to make sure in 3.0 that I can still edit that .ini file... Thanks!

Thanks for the instructions. This is truly amazing how much speedier the touch screen is now with an update wince! I hope the AVIC-F upgrade is really more than just a new CE though!

Others have referenced changing the sounds. What exactly are you referring to? The reason I ask is because if I look in the data.zip audio directory every single .wav file is the same as the ones in my units audio directory. When I say the same they have the same CRC32 hash as well as the same names and dates. Is this not what you are referring to when you say updated the sounds? If not, please clarify.

Thanks in advance.

Anyway, use this to update WinCE and your system will respond much faster and it only takes about 10 minutes to complete.

download the data.zip file, extract this file and you will find a DATA directory (Sound / SplashPic). now copy that one over your existing one and voila new sounds.

MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU CHANGE FILES on your radio head!

Did the Windows CE update - buttons respond faster. Thanks Bill Gates!

But still bluetooth froze, and frankly this is a pain in the butt. The average consumer would not be able to do this.

Bitman,

Thanks for the response. But I do NOT see the DATA directory in the AVIC_X-Series_Firmware_Update file I downloaded from Pioneer. How can I get the new ones to update my F90BT?

Thanks.

....funny, as I did not think we were "the average consumer." For those people there are two options:

1. Return the unit if they are unhappy with it. :(

2. Wait for the pushbutton updates from Pioneer. :|

....Meanwhile, this community will continue to forge ahead and show the great people at M$ and Pioneer the "art of the possible." :)

Great instructions on updating WinCE adamdenterkin

How do you verify the update worked?

It did seem to update but how do you verify the version installed now?

Thanks again the system response time is quicker now.

Right, we are not the average consumer. If I were an average consumer I would have sent it back a long time ago. I kid you not, the dealer at Custom Sounds was telling me his customers hated the AVIC-F, one guy punched the screen in.

How Childish...

Doesn't seem too childish to me, it was not smart, since he probably could have easily returned it. But the system is awful, and I have been tempted more than once to do that.

no, it's very childish, it's an impulse because things are not going their way... I have too been tempted to take the thing and beat it with my Iphone (2 birds 1 stone) but refrained since it will not change a thing besides my bank account.

Well maybe he made enough money that it was worth the 1000 bucks or whatever just to take his frustration out on it.

And yes, I suppose there could have been a more mature way to deal with it, but its a good example of how frustrating this can be.

Posted Jul 15, 2009 · 21:51 UTC#121

Oh yea, believe me I know, I purchased the unit a couple months after it came out and there were only a few modders for it... I remember how annoying it was  BUT you kinda deal with it, cant let it get to you, if it does and you put a hole through it you wont have ANYTHING to listen to

By the way, kids that should be a lesson for you! haha

Did the Wince update everything seemed to go ok,but when I went into test mode and highlighted my device , properties, it said it was version 5.0 still. How do you verify the WINce update worked?

Do you mean you don't see any difference in performance ? sounds like a waste of time.

Posted Jul 15, 2009 · 22:33 UTC#124

It seems a bit faster, did the WINce update and apl folder update, and every thing went fine I think,

but when I tried to verify the WINce version it said it was 5.0 if I verified it the right way.

Posted Jul 15, 2009 · 23:11 UTC#125

Did this update hoping to see major improvements, and at first I was disappointed. But I realized that even though the unit seems to be completely booted it's still loading files in the background. After its done COMPLETELY booting up then you see the real improvements which are "eh".
