has anyone noticed that the more you tilt to vertical the more streets show up in 3d mode? I'm still trying to figure out the correct clip_planes setting based on my default tiltmax of 7300. I guess the question is as you tilt to vertical does the 2d settings take affect even though you're in 3d mode. It is a gradual process also. Any help with a good clip_plane setting?

Where is the default tiltmax located? It's not in the clip_planes file that's been given.

sys.txt

Put the attached file in side your common folder and save as clip_planes.ui

Not working for me yet... can you help?

Here is what I did. Right click your file, Save As clip_planes.txt.

Opened the COMMON file inside IDT's data.zip (which I am currently using)

Dropped your clip_planes.txt in and renamed it clip_planes.ui

Whad did I do wrong?

Thanks for the help :)

the only problem is the clip_planes file in IDT mods has more code in it for other stuff that the one posted up on here does not have, you should just mod the clip_planes file in IDT mod to change it to what you need (i just copy and pasted the code i wanted to change from one to the other.

OK, so let me see if I've got this straight so I don't screw it up...

Copy and paste the line of text in the clip_planes.txt file to the bottom of the clip_planes.ini file that is already in the IDT modded Data.zip?

i replaced the part of the clip_planes file that deals with the roadsigns in the IDT mod, if you just add it to the file without replacing the original code that you need changed then it prolly wont work b/c the file is telling it 2 diff commands. Just replace that part that deals with the roadsigns

Posted Aug 24, 2009 · 19:27 UTC#56

It helps if you name the file correctly:

clip_planes.ini

As for priority of files and settings, it is this:

iGO looks for a file in the following order and always takes the first one that is found:

1. direct folder structure

2. inside SKIN.ZIP

3. inside BRANDING.ZIP

4. inside DATA.ZIP

And to even add more info: the settings are looked-up in the following order:

1. SYS.TXT (overrides everything)

2. save\SYSTEM.INI

3. [DATA.ZIP]\project_config\igo8_generic.ini (or whatever project is set in SYS or EXE)

4. [DATA.ZIP]\config\devices\{my_device}.ini

Now I see! After digging deeper, I now see that the single line of text in the clip_planes.txt file needed to be broken down line by line to make it look like the clip_planes.ini found inside the DATA.ZIP\ui_pioneer\common\clip_plane.ini files.

Once I did that, it was easy to see the difference in numeric values between the two and I just changed those few lines of code only. (like you suggested)

Hope it works!

Thanks for the help...hope it helps others too.

Can you tell I'm not real savvy writing code???

After changing the contents of clip_plane.ini to match the ones in clip_plane.txt, no change in the AVIC.

Still no street labels!

Is this the wrong fix, the wrong Data.zip (Idt's) to do it in, or the wrong numeric values for roadsigns?

Any thoughts...anyone?

Posted Aug 24, 2009 · 20:46 UTC#59

well, even with the new values not many showed up on mine either, but more then before, MAKE SURE that the file you changed the values in was correctly saved/ziped up in the data.zip. the first time i changed it in mine i saved it but forget to re-zip the data.zip with the new file in it (was working on the data.zip without fully nzipping it) and i had no street lables, BUT once i chacked and realized my mistake it started show them, BUT only the streets right next to where i was, and then only a few of them.

The individual scheme files may rule in this case. I can change my schemes and have more street labels show up with the same tilt/zoom variables. I'm using IDT's 3.0 mod and the 'Gerd' scheme seems to work best. try it, see if you get the same results.

I also have no luck with lables on IDTs mod, but will keep trying

dpending on your zoom preferences outcomes could be different, i always have it zoomed all the way and tilted all the way and the next 2 road label always appear, when i zoom out 2 notches i get 3-4 street names

if I zoomed to 500ft I can see icoming streets lables , but I would prefer keep it on 1000ft is just look much clear

I played with this last night for a bit and found the following out. Some info is definitely a repeat of previous info but I just want to throw it out again.

1) The clip_planes.ini file only supersedes schemes that do not have a color3d.ini file included with them. Pioneer blue and red have these files.

2) I was able to make the roadsign= values work at 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1200. The last variable seems to work with the 'altitude' that you are zoomed in at. My 3d_zoom_max(?) variable in my sys.txt is currently set at 1500. I am going to set it to 1200 to try to narrow down my setting.

3) in the roadsign= 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1200 variable I tried working with the '40' variable. My thought process was that it only allowed labels up to the bottom 40% of the screen. (that's what my screen looked like anyway) nope that's not the case. I have more to do on this one.

My next step is to create 10 schemes with different roadsign values so that i don't have to keep running back and forth to my computer and to save time on bootups. I figure that I will just copy a scheme and rename it internally to the test name.

I was able to create 10 test Pioneer Blue schemes with 10 variables. I am still testing them but I'm not getting much of a difference in labels. I will post specifics soon. The only variable that showed a difference at my default zoom level was 0, 0, 40, 1000, 1000. Everything disappeared on this one. More info to come.

Thanks. Just letting you know someone is following your progress. I thought maybe (after a 5 day silence) you had given it up. Glad to know you're still pursuing this.

Is it just me or did this work SOOO much better in version 2.0?

FYI - I'm also following your research closely... Thank you very much for all your efforts!!

I'm still looking at it. I'm an avid motorcycle rider, so I haven't had much time in my truck. These are the modified settings that I am using with the extra Pioneer Blue Day schemes.

1) 2, 0, 30, 1000, 1000

2) 2, 0, 50, 1000, 1000

3) 2, 0, 70, 1000, 1000

4) 2, 0, 40, 600, 1000

5) 2, 0, 40, 750, 1000

6) 2, 0, 40, 900, 1000

7, 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1500

8, 0, 0, 40, 1000, 1000

9) 1, 0, 40, 1000, 1000

10) 2, 0, 40, 1000, 500

So far mode 10 has killed all labels regardless of zoom. All other modes have not shown much of a difference. I will post my sys.txt when I get home from work tonight. Combined with setting smartzoom to 700ft everything seems to be good for me. I will also post pics too. It will probably be very late because of the kid's football practice and tuck in time.

Posted Sep 02, 2009 · 14:22 UTC#70

I'am using this diaftia's 6 in 1 i can see fair amount of streets at 800ft.

road0 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1000
road1 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1300
road2 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1400
road3 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1700
roadsign               = 0, 0, 2000, 1000, 2000

I've been using the color scheme Old-School-Day from Buckeye , and it seems to be working fine. I get quite a bit of detail in 3D.

When I tried to use the night version, however, it crashed my system (one of the .spr files). I'm not savvy enough to figure out which setting is off. Anyone else want to try their hand at it?

Have any more updates been done on this?

Posted Oct 13, 2009 · 01:13 UTC#73

not really, I kinda' got it where I wanted with the smartzoom. I will revisit this soon because I want to try some sky mods. I don't have any sky visible with my current tilt values but as soon as I tilt it, I lose street names. All of the schemes that I played with where for naught. These are some of the values that I played with... This is my current setup.

[3d_config]

roadsign_lines_per_screen=23 'This made the text smaller'

[map]

2dheadup=1

zoomfactor=110

3d_tunnels=1

show_oneway=1

3d_max_tiltlevel=7100

3d_max_zoomlevel=1500 'The tiltlevel and zoomlevel are in combination with my smartzoom'

[clip_planes]

; mode, lower bound, upper bound, lower value, upper Value

; mode: 0: by zoom level, 1: by number of cells, 2: by intersect value (0..45)

; values: 0.0 .. 1.0 * 1000 (= 0..1000)

faded_buildings_near = 0, 10, 200, 600, 600

faded_buildings_medium = 0, 10, 200, 650, 650

faded_buildings_far = 0, 10, 200, 750, 750

solid_buildings_near = 0, 95, 100, 1000,980

solid_buildings_medium = 0, 95, 100, 1000,980

solid_buildings_far = 0, 95, 100, 1000,980

landmark = 0 , 1, 50, 1000, 1000

road0 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 750

road1 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 800

road2 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 900

road3 = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 1000

roadsign = 2, 0, 40, 1000, 950 'This is the clip_planes section from the 'Easy' scheme that I use most of the time'

It is no different from the stock scheme that IDT has in his mod. I believe my zoom is 700ft. Try my settings and see if you like them. You will not see any sky. The jury is still out on whether I want to give up the screen real estate just to see some stars and such. I'll see soon enough, I've seen some good stuff here.

Bump... any new results???

Posted Mar 01, 2010 · 16:44 UTC#75

nope, not really. Try entering 'fov=55' in your sys.txt in the debug section. This was found by someone else and seems to work well for me. You might want to play with the values depending on your zoom settings.
