I'm a total Noob here and decided to give the 3.0 firmware update a shot On my F700bt. I followed the instructions as listed in the thread.Everything went fine until the step 11 "press and hold down restart and eject for five seconds" I've tried and retried this step and nothing I just get the windows blue "desktop" screen. I tried to re-do the whole install and when I install the SD card and select "update CE" It tells me it is updated and to restart my unit. maybe I'm misunderstanding the restart process. please help!

Try taking out the sd card. It will take you to testmode if you leave it in. Eject the sd card see if that helps.

I tried a variation of resetting...with and without the card it just gives me the boot screen (pioneer logo screen) then seems to try to reboot every 5 minutes.

I think I figured out what I did....I followed the directions right...except for one little detail lol... instead of updating wince (winCE) I selected "More tools" and did the update in the only selection that had CE in it. I hope some of you guys can get a good laugh out of this blunder! I just don't know how to fix this...it replaced everything from that section with the 3.0 files.When I tried to install the 3.O in the wince update selection....it shows it "reading files" in pink near the bottom. after it hits 100% it says updated please restart your unit. Is there anyway to install a back up file or some sort of a restore to get back to before I butchered this easy update?

Any help would be much appreciated

Restart AND eject? Restart only, surely? If you sort this, next time copy your 'my flash disk' before you do any updates or mods! If you cant resolve it follow these instruction for a full install. I used it when I stuffed my f900bt so I know it works

This is a mod which includes US maps. Copy the maps from this mod into the download I gave you the other day and install it as per the walkthrough instructions. Then install the mod as per instructions. This will make your avic more useable and customiseable.

The guy who wrote the mod, Diaftia, is very knowledgeable and is happy to answer questions. And he lives in California lol.

I downloaded Diaftia's mod and can't locate any maps. What am I missing? I only see speedcam.spdb,Speedcam Update and sys.txt

Diaftia's mod doesn't include maps. If it did it would be a 2+gb download. There are maps posted all over this forum. Just grab the ones you want and copy them to the appropriate directory. If that's too hard, try Rettel's 3.1FW update, then Diaftia's 3.6 hybrid mod, that's what I did for my f900bt and my unit works great! Good luck!

If so do I unrar the individual maps and replace them?

Also is the backup file 3.0?

I'm getting there!

I'm still DLing the US maps but in the mean time I've been searching the backup files for the EW maps folder, The only thing I have found that look like maps were the following files...

LPUE080APL.HTM

LPUE080DATA.HTM

LPUE080DATA.VER

LPUE080APL.VER

The VER files won't open but the APL's will but start to extract when dbl clicked... I have basic Computer skills here and could use a bit for help with the map switching.

You're not going to harm anything just by looking through folders. I think the maps are in APL2 if my memory is correct.

I'm halfway thruogh downloading the US maps as soon as I have all of them I will extract them all to a folder on my desktop and switch them out with the EW maps on the backup files...I have them already extracted to an SD card. then I will let you all know.

Nick, when you've got it up and running don't forget to keep a copy of the un-modded 'my flash disk' on your pc in case you stuff the AVIC again in the future (although after what you've been through I can't imagine that happening!)lol

I really do need all of the us maps...besides once this thing is up and running I wanna leave it alone for a while! LOL

Yes once I verify the files work I'm gonna back it up.

Well,

Everything was looking good....got all the Maps,Poi's and DEMs swapped over removed all EW Maps followed the instructions....got everything started....watched as is was loading everything....it got just past the POI's and threw an error of not enough space leftand to delete items to make space. So I shut it down took the SD car back in and put it in my PC and deleteted the EW POI's and tried again....it got further but did the same thing...so I went back in and deleted the EW buildings and quite a few EW langauges I left UK english,AU english and Spanish. went back out tried again but this time it will not start up in testmode it just throws the pioneer screen and restarts every 20-30 seconds but looks like it's trying to read the SD i'm getting the bluetooth light flashing.

I went back in and deleted the 2.3 testmode from my SD card and extracted it on again. I tried clearing the SD card completly and re-extracting the EW backup files and changing only what I did the 2nd time to no avail. I'm kinda stuck here anybody have any Ideas?

Only thing I think I might have done different was not removing the SD card before shutting of the key not sure if I did or not.

I even tried to load testmode 2.3 onto an SD by itself figuring if I could get it into testmode then swap cards I might be alright....nope!

This thing is bumming me out!

(checked again and now it shows pioneer sceen..the bluetooyh light flashes 3 times them it shuts down....blacked out brick)

keep trying, it took me a couple of attempts before I got it. When I did my install I didnt do the 'unmount the disk' bit because you're already formatting it.

I took the original 3.0 DL loaded it up and it got me back into testmode once there I swapped SD to the EW backup files and did the EW copy/paste and again it warned of not enough disk space...so I popped the SD back in the PC and slashed and burned the US POI's the EW Voices,Buildings and POI's...put it back in copy/paste ect....this time it did not warn of free space so I let her rip....it loaded up everything. I followed the instructions...remove SD card,shut off car...with car off install 2nd SD card and restart car.Well it brought up the Update screen in red and was "file searching" for over 30 min. and in the lower bar it said incorrect information on SD/USB! so close!

So right now it will start up to main menu but the system start up bars stays on. The radio/CD works but it restarts after 2-5 mins it allows me access to the settings and shows ver, 3.0 but it won't go to GPS/maps it just gives the Nav warning screen and it shuts down.

Right now I'm re-downloading the update from the EW backup files thread to see if I somehow corrupted the original while loading and unloading these SD cards.

Any other Ideas? was it ok to remove all of the POI's,Buildings,Language and Voices?

Just make sure you reformat your sd card each time. Removing poi's etc is not a problem. Did you rename the rar files as instructed? I wish I was there to walk you through it!

Ok, I did not re format the SD card before switching over from the old 3.0 to the pioneer update.I did rename and rar the EW files. I give the reformat a try.

I reformated the SD and reloaded the update on it and am still getting "incorrect software on SD/USB" is there another update I should be using?

I got it!!! Ok, the answer was right in front of me the whole time I was really stuck on the EW backup files...I reallized after looking thru the US 3.0 files from my original botched uddate that all of the maps,lang,voice,poi's...ect. were right there...so I followed the same procedure for the EW install...format,copy/paste ect.

Now....should I install the dafiata's mod? It's ready to load on an SD. The instructions say to reboot THEN remove the SD card. I want to be clear and not cause myself another situation. Reboot simply means turn the key off then restart correct?
