so wait, apple changed something and it no longer works...
nobody saw that one coming.

My lightning cable adapter finally arrived today and I verified that it does indeed work on my X920 (upgraded to X940 firmware).

Here is the official compatibility release from Pioneer:

So your iPhone 5 functions with the head unit just like the 4s did? You have full use of advanced app mode, video out, etc?
You have full use of advanced app mode, video out, etc?
Thats already been discussed in this thread. No one has those abilities at this time.
newb here, 30-pin to lightning cable adapter arrived today, works fine on my X920 (album art, Pandora, AHA). Don't know about video, never used it before anyway.

I was responding to Keith who indicated compatibility with his x920 (upgraded to x940). Simply clarifying.
So what is the bottom line. I have been following this thread. I have been looking at getting the iPhone 5 but only if it will work with my 930. A friend has the phone and has ordered the adapter but it hasn't arrived yet and I was going to try his first but I have a good deal happening for the iPhone 5 but its no deal if it doesn't work
With the Apple adapter everything works except video and App Mode.
I have a friend with an adapter and iPhone 5. Going to try it on my x920 (upgraded to x940) today and see what happens.

Confirmed this yesterday. When you plug the Apple cable into the Pioneer cable and then into the iPhone 5 the Pioneer apps just show the connect image.
hey guys.
not sure if its been discused here. but the reason the video wont work is cause the iphone 5 used digital video out as opposed to the older iphones use RGB. the audio and other functions use the USB so those will work fine.
this info was from a friend who works for pioneer.

It has and we already knew this way before anyone at Pioneer could tell us anything.

The audio does not use USB.
well actually, the pioneer units use the composite video out pins in the 30 pin dock connector, now the 30 pin connector dock connector does have pins have pins for component video out (RGB) so that you can use either cable to match the TV you have, but the AVIC's do not use them.as opposed to the older iphones use RGB.
AVIC's software does not allow audio to be transferred via data, only analog through another connector (either RCA or 4 pin 1/8" mini jack depending on model) can be used with them, now the AVH's will just use USB but thats another long explanation for avh411.comthe audio and other functions use the USB so those will work fine.
long story short, the AVIC does not process the ipod locally (able to use data) it processes everything on the ipod itself, so it has to use analog.
yeah, doesn't really mean much, we all have a friend or two that works for pioneer, and half of them are consistently wrong (except mine, I raised him us as an installer, and now is an electrical engineer that tests new developments)this info was from a friend who works for pioneer.
all apple had to do was use different pins out of the 30 instead of creating a whole new plug and basically screwing all of their most loyal customers. because lets face it, a new convert wouldn't necessarily have any of the old stuff, like cables, docks, alarm clocks, boom boxes, oh yea $1000 navigation systems. not everything get replaced every year like some junk, some audio gear like good home equipment, can last for decades. kinda make you have to wonder, if you do that to your most loyal customers, why should their customers continue to be so loyal?
sorry V, i'll just step down from my soap box now..... ![]()
well apparently i was wrong haha. learn something new every day. other then apple screwing everyone over ![]()
just got back from the Apple store - it was the first time they had the complete (I think it was complete) selection of Apple brand adapters and converters to go between 30 pin and eight pin.
That being said, has anyone actually bought the Apple $29.99 converter with the included D/A circuitry and tested it with the Avic systems?
I'd love to get a new iPod Touch for the car, but losing video out would be the deal breaker.
Everything I've read here seems to be about third party adapters
Did you even bother to read the whole thread? The lack of video out has nothing to do with who makes the cable. You wont get video out until someone comes up with a solution to route the video from the lightning connector to the video inputs on the unit. And even then its a maybe. The Apple Lightning to VGA is one option that may work but no one will know until someone else test it and reports back.
one of two things is gonna happen, either apple will release a lightning plug to usb AND composite video out only if the signal is actually sent through the lightning plug, and once apple makes it, everybody else can)
or what signals are sent through the plug are not compatible and the next generation of avic(hopefully the next generation) will address this issue, and unless you are willing to replace your nav system, you will be screwed
or just give new apple the toss...nothing wrong with the last gen ipod touch
or just give apple the toss...
^ there, i fixed it for you! lol
ok, so if this is the best that Apple is coming up with, I guess that analog video is dead forever in their eyes?

any idea on if anyone has made either of these somehow adapt to be used with the X920 - 930 series for analog video?
looks like far too many cables and connectors are going to be needed.....
also...apparently...any i-devices with the 30-pin connector that have been updated to iOS6, analog video out has been disabled. Anyone have that problem?

I dont think so. Iphone 4 upgraded to ios 6, and advanced appmode still worked on x930 - I believe the advanced appmode requires video out inorder to function (display on the screen).

thanks - ihave since found out that certain apps have had their video out disabled, but it's on an app-to-app basis
Well VGA is an analog video signal, not digital, so while this is not the right signal that we need, it is at least a good sign that video being outputted from the unit is not dead. if the units are outputting VGA, then composite video output is not that far off, its probably now just a waiting game until the correct adapter comes out, because VGA can be converted to component, and component is just a more broken down version of composite. there is still hope!I guess that analog video is dead forever in their eyes?
however it is also likely that we will see newer systems that work with the newer hardware before we see the right adapters.

Are they outputting analog video, or converting down to analog do you think? also, wouldn't it be more likely there was an HDMI to 30 pin that was made aftermarket, or does HDMI need a power source
