The wait is over! My AVIC-D3 has come in from crutchfield! I'll hopefully have time to install it tomorrow, and I will post again with my own impressions. Basic observations:

- The front bezel is kind of a glossy black, but not quite as shiny as the picture on Crutchfield (good thing, because that pic had me slightly disturbed). The design looks great and I think will look good in my 95 Maxima.

- The volume knob is indeed a standard analog knob with a click button function. I never looked this up in the manual but I believe that is for switching av inputs, muting, or answering bluetooth calls.

- Dimensions are as follows: 3.75" tall, 7" wide, 6.75" deep

I have also attached pics of the box, all included cables and manuals, and the front and back of the unit itself. If anyone has any other visual related questions, feel free to ask.

Enjoy your new unit, and asap, let us know the bypass situation.

Posted Feb 28, 2007 · 19:56 UTC#5

uhh what up with the map disks?

Good stuff dude...would this be an impossible task to install myself if this is my first time? I'm tired of paying people an arm and a leg to do things...I need to start learning myself. I have an 05 Chrysler 300C.

Think I will cancel my preorder and order one from Crutchfield. Beautiful unit.

hopefully you will install it soon and have pictures of it running and maybe some videos. I really want to see how iPod functions

Unfortunately I don't know much about the D2 bypass since I didn't own the unit, I held out and waited for the D3! Is there something on the D3 I should look for that might be of interest to you in relation to the bypass?

Ehh, if you look at the bottom, is there a silver sticker covering what appears to be a hole? DON'T LIFT IT! Unless you want to void your warrenty, but just let us know if the sticker is there.

+1 for the pics! cant wait for you do do the install and share with everyone.

No sticker there. HOWEVER, the product sticker (containing the model and serial number) seems to be covering a hole or gap in the unit, feels like it's about the size of one of my middle fingernails. I have no idea what could be under there.

Let the speculating begin....

About the MAP DVD's, nothing special here, just 2 red discs with the word DVD on it. Says Navigation Disc for AVIC-D3 Version 1.0. There is a West Disc and an East Disc and contains data for USA and Canada.

Ummm thats not the bypass for the D1/D2. Thats the N1/N2/N3.

If it fits, it should work fine.

And to think, way back in high school, I was always told I was a bad influence on people! LOL Thanks for the props.

I love the thing also. I have hundreds of music videos, thousands of mp3's and still going! LOL Where do you have it placed? do you have it hidden anywhere? I have mine in my glovebox, and purchased the infrared extender and wired it behind the dash, and it pops out right under the radio by the climate controls. hardly noticeable!

Hmm...I got word the D3 Harness does not have the magic empty pin.

Hmmm...I think it may be worth it to check under the serial code sticker when I get mine. I'll just hair dry the shit out of it...hopefully it comes off with no problem.

If theres nothing there....this might be a tough one to bypass.
