just got my D3 mfg. 3/07. Did the bypass and installed in 350z. works great!
Is there a way to bypass "license agreement" everytime when it start?
thanks!
Nope!!!
So I must be the first "lucky" person who has been unable to make the bypass work.
I am able to get the parking brake warning to go off after moving the wire, but the DVD cuts off @ ~10mph. I just rechecked the mute wire and it has a good ground. I have also used the reset feature. So... here are a couple of questions I have;
1. Did you have to restore to the factory settings?
2. When you go into Hardware Info screen, then Connection Status screen should the parking brake show on or off? Mine shows on.
3. My unit was received last week, but was manufactured 3/07.
4. What else should I check?
Hmm.. I would make sure the ground on your mute wire is good. It sounds like the parking brake wire is grounded ok so maybe you can just tap into that.
quick question...
i did this step by step.
there is no wrongfull connection screen, but when i turn on the dvd it still has me click the disclaimer.
will that always be there?
It will still give you the nag screen, but it will work while moving.
Well I found my problem and all I can say is be careful when removing the mute wire. I did not view the directions closely enough and tried to "push" the wire out of the socket a little too aggressively. I had enlarged the end of the mute wire and it was making contact only part of the time when connected to the unit. ![]()
I removed the wire and squeezed it back down to size and now all is good!

Thanks!
Hey guys, bought my D3 yesterday and installed it today. I used a pick, easily plucked the mute wire out, and snapped it into the correct position. I grounded this to the radio harness kit ground wire, this wire I then grounded to the parking brake wire and the AVIC ground wire, and ran that to the chasis as well. So it is grounded to the harness and the chasis also. I checked the connections and went into the info screen and saw the parking brake was "off". Is this a late production D3 error? I consider myself pretty good with electronics, mobile electronics and I even saw several questions go unanswered in here. One was, in some cases, (maybe later units) do these wires have to be grounded individually or can they all be tied in together and grounded to the chasis?
Guys, I pulled my connector out of the unit and I saw this brownish, amber colored (paint?) on the tip of the last two male pins on the D3 itself. I'm going to try and scrape these off somehow. Maybe it was Pioneer's way of trying to stop the bypass? Anyway, any other tricks I should try? I'm getting a little frustrated. The parking wire, i snipped and spliced right into the radio's ground. Why does it still show it as being "off" in the info screen? If this werent a good ground the radio wouldn't even power up.
It's a 1997 Nissan Maxima BTW. I used to have an N1 so I left the reverse signal and the speed signal and GPS antenna still there from the N1 wiring.
disregard the above message. I just missed one of the most iportant parts of the install. Drive around, give it some time to learn! Duh. Thanks guys!
hi, there. i'm a total no0b and from what i've been hearing about the avic-d3 bypass is that you need to change the position of the mute wire, ground it and then ground the parking brake wire, too. but what's all this talk i'm hearing about a vss wire? i understand it's the vehicle speed sensor, but what am i supposed to do with it and how come i never see it mentioned regarding avic-d3 bypass till now. please help, i thought it was easy until i heard of this vss business!

The VSS wire is used to determine your exact speed. The GPS can use satellites to calculate your speed and it works pretty well, but sometimes it can be off. By using the VSS, the GPS is able to show your location more acurately.
I don't use the VSS wire and it works just fine.
I have a 2007 chevy (classic style) with the Bose and Onstar. Does Onstar use the mute wire? Or does the Pacos adapter take care of that? Thanks in advance,,
Kevin
onstar does not use the mute wire.
I just got a d3 and was wondering if there was any truth to the post where the guy said the most recent produced units cant be bypassed? This one was manufactured date of April 2007.i saw alot of peeps list a date of march 2007. my real question is has anyone else got an april 2007 unit that they have bypassed ? and did it work?

Thxs doom! i am doing the mod tonight ill post my results soon. Hopefully it will be good hehe!
did this just as post shows and works like a charm(mfd april 2007) The d3 is an amazing unit for the money, it sounds 100 times better to me then my old alpine 9855.Never could get the alpine to sound the way i like. I love this units combination of features.maybe pioneer will release an add on hd tuner hehehe. thnxs for the excelent post and to others here who have helped with my questions.
I am getting mine installed Friday. the guy that is doing it just got mine in today. Does anyone know any truth to the newer units not working. Guess I will just try and see what happens. Also is there any chance that this will effect the product later down he road? Thanks
unfortunately, my store recently hooked up an avic-d3 and it also wouldn't let us bypass it. we are trying to put it in an 05 dodge magnum. i believe it is the newer units that will not allow you to bypass them. i put one in an 05 ford mustang in january and it allowed me to bypass it, but the one we tried to put in the magnum a week ago or so, wouldn't allow us to. so i'm not sure what the deal is, like i said though, i think the newer ones will not allow you to.
My D3, mfg in April 07, bypassed perfectly. ![]()
well that's odd, i'm not sure when this one was manufactured, we'll probably pull it out and look at it. i just find it wierd that this one is not bypassing when the other one (which i wired the exact same way) bypassed perfectly!
ok, here's yet another update, we tried another unit and it worked fine, that's wierd but true!

The manufacture date is on the unit and on the box. as far as i know there is no difference in manufacture date as to weather it works or not. if you look at the post on page nine of this review by Crusader he claims that....
..."OK - you monkeys all realize that Pioneer performed a specification change that prevents the "mute wire bypass" from working on the later machines ... right? I'm an installer. I've been doing this work for 20+ years, so I kinda know what I'm talking about. When these Pio HDU's were initially released, the bypass worked perfectly. A few months down the road, we started to see things change. When the vehicle was driven, the picture would go out. When the vehicle came to a stop, the picture would come back on. When the nav sysyem senses that the vehicle is in motion, it cuts off the picture.
What this means is this ... if you have a fairly new machine, the "move the mute wire & ground it and also ground the parking brake wire" method will not work.
I do not know the date break for the change.
At this point, I am not aware of an alternate bypass method"
But if you look at the post date of april 20 it would seem that either he is a moron or that he was lying or it must be something pioneer may have planned. Because i have april manufactured unit along with others and they all work fine bypassed. So if on april 20 he had really experienced this then ours probably would not have been bypassable. point is if its not working your prolly not doing something right or may not understand the exact meaning of one or more of the proceders?
Anyone with newer manufacture date then april please confirm your date and your result so we can see if this guys claim holds water! personally i cant see how its only june3 today so unless it just started in may then it isnt true.
Bypass worked like a charm!!! Thanks!!
thanks for the pic and walkthrough, im a car audio idiot and i need things idiot proof
