Yes people are working on it. I think some guys are pretty close to some sort of a solution.

You can transfer anything you want to the hard drive but the Z1/2 plays AT3 files not MP3 files and there are a few "playlist like" files that would need to be created in order for the Z1/2 to see them in the library and actually play them. It was kind of a pain and people pretty much gave up on that. No one ever figured out how to create those play list files. Sorry. Audio CD and ripping them one by one is the only way we know of.
just installed a Z2. hopefully the hack comes out. Going to be updating my buddy's Z1 for the newest bypass. He's currently on the headlight flash + toggle method. unit powers on and he has to hit a switch 3 times.

Actually you only need to hit it one time but at the correct time. Have him go here:
http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#manualflashing
And try the one time flash before you switch him out.
I have something I want to verify.
I don't know if this works, I don't have a Z2 at my disposal at this moment to try it, but I'm asking people to see if they could test something for me.
I haven't tried this but I just got this message. It's from a friend of a friend of a friend, who is an insider at Pioneer. Long story but I have gotten some good stuff from him in the past. Anyway, I have been poking him for bypass information and he just sent me:
ground the empty pin in the RCA harness (connector 1) and the parking brake
I don't even know if there is an empty slot on connector 1. If so, then measure the voltage on that pin inside there when it's powered on, if it's 5V, sounds like it's worth a try.
there is no empty pin in connector 1
Figured it wasn't that simple.
there is the phone mute wire on there ??
why would you put that in there w/ the ability to do bluetooth
any other ideas let me know i have 3 in stock and can check any ideas, also have one being installed as we speak
For other brand cellular car kits

i have a way to watch video on the z2 all you have to do is loop the rear monitor output into the reverse input and put a toggle switch in only thing is that you get that little message on the bottom of the screen

Not to be a dick but that really isn't a new idea. Some people were doing that on the N1 when they realized that updating their software to make it an N2 locked out the bypass. I guess if people are that desperate to have video while driving, that is a good idea. What most people here want the bypass for is to enable the navigation portion while driving.
hey my offer is still good if you wanna try....... ![]()

is there a way to bypass the e-brake to make the Z2 think that it is always engaged? just a thought. would that solve the problem? Im sure it couldnt be that easy... could it?
no that will not work it will still detect motion and lock out.
I hope I'm not repeating anyone here, but I have a Z2 waiting to be installed. I was hoping for a bypass method to show up first, but I'm wondering: has anyone tried the headlight flashing bypass? I don't see any mention of it in this thread (except for the Z1).
Just curious if that's usable as a stopgap until a better method comes out.
It has been tried, it doesn't work
It makes me curious though. If there was a simple bypass like that built into the Z1, then shouldn't there be something like it but different in the Z2?
The Z1 used it's connection with the illumination wire to figure it out.
Maybe the Z2 requires the parking brake sensor to be switched on/off during start up. Or perhaps shifting into reverse. Whatever the AVIC units can sense could possibly be a new bypass, no? Except speed pulse, hopefully.
Figured it wasn't that simple.
Do not feel bad bro. i heard the same thing from a friend of a friend. And it did not turn out either. Word is from pioneer the info woll leak this month . But noone can say why its not out already . i have seriously tried everything. And i can not find it. i have tried an adjustable resustance and pulse timer from 3 to 20 times. and nothing . on brake wire or lights. I tried all the bypasses together and nothing. If anyone can find anything let me know and i will try it.
From reading this post and several others I see this appears to be controlled by a file update. I've examined the contents of the Bluetooth upgrade disc. It appears a majority of the disc is just gzip deflated. Has anyone narrowed down what file(s) might control the lockout? I'd like to try to work it from this route if anyone has a good start.
i'm new to this but i put a z2 in a customers car and just used 3 relays and a switch to interupt the vss and ant. when he's watching a movie, if you don't mind losing your gps while watching a movie thats the easiest way to do it let me know what you guys think

That'll work until the Z2 has been installed in the car for a while. Give it a few hundred miles and your customer will be back saying that the 'bypass' you installed no longer works. Why you ask? Because the Z2 has three ways of determining if you're moving; the VSS wire, the satellites and it's internal gyros. You've taken care of the first two, but once the gyros get calibrated, it'll lock you out after a while.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of people use the video feature while driving on a long trip, which is also when a lot of people use the navigation feature, so its really not practical.
I would only use this as a last resort.
Foremost, from an RF standpoint putting anything in line with the GPS antenna will weaken it's signal. Even a switch in a connected position will still "leak" signal and could cause issues in areas where reception is already difficult.
that makes sense, but he wanted it done for a car show so he could say that he was one of the first, it's a show car so i doubt he'll have any problems but i will keep that in mind for future installs
