in order to bypass the video while driving function for the Z1 you have to load a special file onto the Hard drive, i got the file from a tech at pioneer, Bpz1s.kwi you simply load it into the drive and click ok for the prompt to install, i have no clue how to take it out but it works great

ADMIN EDIT:
This is most likely a hoax. Mostly because there no way at the present time to get a file on the Z1.

If you want to bypass your Z1 for a June 06 unit or older, you can buy ducatiboy's circuit: [url=http://www.sminntech.com/z1flasher.html">http://www.sminntech.com/z1flasher.html or buy a TR7 or flash your headlights while the Z1 is booting. For a July 06 unit and newer you can just ground 2 wires.

they need to do something simple like that for all the rest of the mods...just change a file, burn a new dvd and viola! Anyone wanna try to hack that part of the dvd?
Posted Apr 11, 2006 · 18:18 UTC#3
how do you get this file exactly?
Posted Apr 11, 2006 · 21:51 UTC#4
yeah, anyway you can post it up so we can download it?

It's still an easy bypass, I havn't seen one yet but have instructions on how to do it, it someone can get me a high-res picture of the back I'll get back to you.

Installing the file Bpz1s.kwi "if it exists" wouldnt have any effect on dvd playback. A .kwi file is an update to a navigation database which has no effect on dvd playback on the Z1.

Actually, an update to the nav system may turn off the speed sense, gyroscope, and GPS tracking when not in navi mode, or at least disconnect it from the DVD section..

Do you mind sharing that file u got?

Well I had been running the N2(on eBay now as we speak), and I just had the Z1 installed on Saturday...All we did was the normal back in the day trick with the park brake wire, and I have video while driving..I do get the "warning" message when I first crank up the car, but after hitting OK, all is good!

are you sure that all you have to do is ground the parking wire ?
as i purchased the z1 a couple of days ago and was thinking about returning it while its new in the box as its not worth anything to me not to have video in the front while moving.

can anyone else conferm this works,, thanks

the only bypass that I know of so far is to interupt the gps antenna with a relay and switch

the bad thing is you wont be able to do nav, but you will have movies

Does anyone have a pictorial diagram on how to bypass the avic z1?
Posted Apr 21, 2006 · 16:45 UTC#13
I had the Z1 installed last friday and I ask them to ground the parking brake wire, and I CANNOT watch movies or my TV turner while I drive. All I have is the audio and it turns off the video. One good thing is I dont have to put it in park for the video to come on. I also have the screen that says the parking brake wire is not connected right.

I have my z1 installed already with the ebrake wire connected properly through the installer. How do i reverse the process so i can use it for navigational purposes only, don't care for the video part.

If you ground the pbrake wire it will play video while moving until you get to a certain speed/distance.. then it shuts off..

As for this file.. does anyone know more about this? This guy posted that then disapperaed.. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this. And if so, where to find it..

Thats exactly what i tried out and the just shut off the dvd and some the the nav menus. If there is a way to bypass the warning we will be good to go.

so i guess the user that said that you could just ground the parking brake was bs... now i wounder if the guy with this magical bios flash an fix these problems ?
Posted Apr 22, 2006 · 21:04 UTC#18
probably the only way to bypass is using a switch.

Anyone seen or tried this?
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/for ... 2&get=last

"To bypass the pioneer avic-z1 toggle 12 volts on the dimmer wire 3 times at the pioneer start up screen before the music comes on! If installed properly turn the lights on and off 3 times or use a toggle switch."

If that works, it would be VERY EASY to build a relay to do that automatically upon getting power.

does he mean flash the headlights 3 times or the z1 lights 3 times. i might just install my z1 tomarow and try this out.

I take it to mean trigger the dimmer wire on the Z1 3 times before its boot sequence is complete but after it has positive to the remote wire. The original poster is saying if you have it installed properly, ie dimmer hooked up to your headlights, all you should have to do is turn your lights off and on 3 times.

gentlemen, this bypass really works! I also read the same thread earlier this afternoon on 12 volt. Here are the steps,

1. make sure your wires are installed properly,

2.make sure your ebrake is off,

3.you must be on a xm,sirius or someother source except for dvd when you start the car, if on dvd the z1 will recognize it and shut the bypass off.
4.when the z1 is starting, hit the lights 3 times before any music starts, otherwise it wont work.
5. afterthat check the nav menus to see if you can press everyone.

and thats it.

Hell if that works it would be just easy period to flicker your lights. I'm already use to turning my lights on when I get into the car, now I just do it two more times. :) I've pm'ed the OP to see if he has confirmed this first hand. I do agree with you though, a simple relay would make for an elagant solution.

FYI first confirmation in that thread above that it works.
