Yes it matters when your unit was manufactured.

You'll AT LEAST need to do the 2-wire.

If it has freezing problems, you'll need the firmware update (which also contains the bypass if not already installed)

If the bypass software isn't installed (dependent on manufacture date), you'll need to load the ISO.

HTH.

Thank you again, Hyper.

What is the specific date cutoff? Is it June '07? And what would be the difference in steps between a pre/post model?

Posted Dec 05, 2007 · 05:25 UTC#603

June is the date, and it's a toss-up if you'd need to do it to a June unit.

Process only changes that you'd need to run the update disc if the update isn't applied (ie- if the 2-wire bypass isn't working)

I'm ordering my Z2 in a few days and want to make sure I understand this correctly. I should start by just doing the two-wire bypass and resetting the unit.

If that doesn't work, install the firmware update provided on the first page of this thread and that should get it working.

Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

Correct

Are there any known problems with the bypass? I had an installer tell me today that it will work fine for a while then it will fry the HDD or gyro? He told me that I should hold out for the Z3 (due out in Feb) and all of the problems will be worked out and the unit will also be less expensive.

Is there any truth to any of this?

Thanks

No, he is lying sack of chit. Take your car somewhere where they are honest

so I have a AVIC-Z1 series (one of the last models made) bypassed with the two wire and parking break technique. If I upgrade my AVIC-Z1 to -Z2 status buy purchasing the upgrade discs through Pioneer, then this unlock hack will work in my car to bypass the unit? Is there any further step to do after this? Thanks in advance!

If you already have the 2-wire bypass done, updating to the Z2 software won't require you to do anything. It will already be done

Ok, so I've got one for you guys. I had the Z2 installed by a professional shop. I showed him the post on my iphone and told him what to do. He said not to worry about it, it was already taken care of. The deck has worked perfectly for about 3 months giving me dvd's in motion. Then, all the sudden I started getting the ebrake wire is not connected properly message. The DVD will still play sometimes, but also shuts off after a minute or two.

Why would it work for months, then suddenly this error? Is this a bad 2 wire bypass job or is it in need of the software update?

Just a wire that came loose after months of vibration

I hate to be so slow but I am looking for some one within range of New Orleans to help me with bypass for my Z2. Am willing to travel. I am totally dense on this issue and willing to pay for help. Thanks. Call me.

So the 2 wire bypass from the first post for the Z1 still works on the Z2 correct? The wires are all in the same location and connectors are the same?

Thanks

Yep

2-Wire bypass didn't work. Repeated tries with and without firmware update and not working in 2005 Chrysler 300.

Then you're doing it wrong. Pay someone who knows what they are doing

Also double check where the ground wire is

I tried the software approach (method 2). Release e-brake and don't get items software suppose to allow access to. Retry with disk and it tells me the update has already been done, but I'm not getting the results.

When you copy it to your disk is it just the .iso file or allow it to copy where it puts several folders and a .dat file?

Posted Dec 24, 2007 · 05:23 UTC#619

If you stick the disk in and it says the update is already done, then its a wiring problem

Posted Dec 24, 2007 · 06:24 UTC#620

I guess I'll have to go back to the installer.

I actually am having the same problem i did the 2 wire grounding myself and still having the same problem it worked at one pont but since then it goes back to the same thing saying that it is not hooked up right, therefore not being able to control it while the car is in motion, but if i reset it while im driving and let it come back on it works but its not worth it considering it changes some settings. So there most be a new mod that has to be done. But one ? i do have is do the 2 ground wires have to be grounded together or can they be grounded 2 different places?

Something has come loose. Check both grounds, and that the pin you moved is in the new location solidly

Hi, All--

I've read through all 42 pages of this thread . . . at the beginning of the thread, and in a few quoted posts within it, Hyperite has indicated that this firware update is for a Z2 ONLY, but I could have sworn I saw a couple of posts where people had upgraded their Z1's to Z2's, and applied this firmware upgrade.

I am about to install the Z2 Bypassed image onto a Toshiba MK4026GAX HDD that I ordered, and if I have read correctly, the firmware on this disk image is v2.0000.

Can someone clarify whether after installing this image, I can then update the firmware of my Z1 to the later, Z2-specific 2.14 firmware with this file?

If this isn't possible, then is there a firmware update available for the Z1 anywhere, and if so, where?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you , thank you, thank you.

Did the bypass today and it works great.

Now my passenger can input info without having to stop.

If you upgrade your Z1 to the "Z2 Bypassed image", you won't need to bypass it again. If you upgrade your Z1 to the Z2 via pioneer upgrade disc, you also don't need to do this, as it already contains the update. The firmware update you're referring to is NOT addressed in this thread (2.00000 is the software version), but is available on the pioneer site (search the forum for a link) if you experience hard drive instability/freezing.
