No, I mean it never tells me my parking brake is hooked up incorrectly or complains about anything. It doesn't complain even if I kill 12V constant power to the whole thing. From my understanding, the 2nd wire needs to be hooked up because hooking up just the P-brake wire alone will cause it to complain about the P-brake wire being hooked up incorrectly if it's powered up with ONLY the P-brake wire grounded. However, mine w/Z3 image doesn't do that.

Yes, I understood what you said.... why would it tell you your brake is hooked up incorrectly if it's hooked up correctly?

The way I thought it's supposed to work is it senses a change in state from non-grounded to grounded, and if it detects that wire is constantly grounded, then it will alert you the p-brake wire isn't hooked up correctly like all the other AVICs.

If there was never any problem having ONLY the p-brake wire constantly grounded, then what purpose is there to ground that 2nd wire?

What I am saying is after the Z3 upgrade it doesn't seem to care whether that 2nd wire is grounded or not.

Right, but you're not moving if you're bench testing. It only claims improper hookup if it detects movement (via gps or accelerometer) while the brake is grounded. Standing still with the parking brake set, you're allowed to watch movies all day. The second wire bypasses the motion lockout.

Got it, thanks. That's what I trying to find out - whether it monitors anything other than the p-brake wire like VSS, GPS, etc. Sorry I didn't make that clear!

its probably a stupid question but both of you put the yellow rca from the tv's and used a y-adaptor to attach it to video in....and then you changed the settings in the unit, right?

so i just purchased a Avic z2 off ebay and was attempting to bypass it...

I read the post made on the page and grounded the yellow wire with the black stripe and the light green wire first... then i put in the CD with the image, hit map and the cd said that the upgrade was already installed so i just hit reset and it all worked fine for about 10 minutes, the movie that was playing stopped and a message popped up saying something along the lines of "you can not watch videos while the car is in moving" and "the parking lead wire seems to be hooked up incorrectly"... i dont understand what is going wrong... can anybody help me!?!?

did u take the black and yellow wire of out the harness and relocate it in the empty slot in the other connector? cuz thats half the bypass and you made no mention of that

Does METHOD 2 work on the z3?... or should i say Z1 with a upgraded Z3 Harddrive?

for the z1 all you have to do is the 2 wire bypass. its just z1's and early z2's that need the extra work done.

my friend hooked it up so he's the one that knows all about the wires and crap so i just need to know what to tell him so i can fix it... the two wires that we connected to the ground were a yellow wire with a black stripe running down the middle and a light green wire... what else do i have to tell him to do?

did he relocate the black n yellow wire to the empty slot in the other connector?

all he did was connect the light green and yellow wire with the black stripe to the ground wire... when you talk about him relocating the black n yellow wire into an empty slot do you mean the yellow wire with the black stripe or two different wires that are in the wire harness? if you can just simply give me instructions on what i can tell him i would appreciate it because i know nothing when it comes to hookin up car audio

take the black and yellow wire and unlock/pull it out of the harness. relocate it in the end slot on the other connector. THEN ground the black/yellow and green wires. otherwise itll lock you out as soon as u start moving

so i did what you told me, i took out the yellow and black wires from the harness and moved them into an empty slot and then i have the light green and yellow wire with a black stripe grounded to the black ground wire and everytime i turn on my car the first thing that comes up is still there is improper connection of the parking brake lead and it locks me out of shit when im moving... i cant figure out what to do... i even tried resetting it once... please help!!!

nonononono......the yellow wire and the black wire are not to be touched!! thats your constant and ground wires, put them back where they belong. you take the yellow wire with the black stripe and move it TO THE EMPTY SLOT IN THE OTHER CONNECTOR, not just any empty slot. check the manual. its the "cell phone mute wire"

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to install a Z3 into my 06 Mustang this weekend.

I've located the light green parking brake wire, as well as moved the yellow wire, with two black stripes, marked MUTE (CRW1358-A) into the bottom right location on the connector 2 socket. Now my question is, and it may be really stupid, but I have absolutely no knowledge of anything electrical:

How do you attach these wires to ground them? I understand you attach them to an unpainted piece of metal on your car, but how? The black grounding wire looks like it could be attached under a screw because of the washer-like end on it, but what about the other two? How do they get attached in a way that secures them? Can they all be connected together into a happy grounding wire family, or should they be separate from each other?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom
