I just cut the connector off of that one...spliced them all together and used a bus connector to run a length of wire to my ground....
It doesn't matter how, just as long all of them find a good grounding source....

Thanks dawgbone! Did you install on a Mustang as well, or another car?
Tom

No... Mine is a 03 Chevy Silverado SS...
I lucked out, as there are step by step instructions to my truck's entire install on this site... or at least there was...
I know I got Wire #1 grounded correctly because a DVD will play while driving. I think I got Wire #2 grounded correctly. How long before it will lock me out if I didn't get #2 grounded correctly? I have a Z3.
Sorry if this has been asked. I did search for it.
big problem.. I did what you said.. After restarting it, it gets stuck at 68% and said that there is an error, press retry to retry.. etc. help..
Maybe it's cause you burned it on a mac. Is it a possibility to get a friend with a PC to download and burn it?
I just called him to help
And yeah, what dwhitley said is a good point... my drive has already been unlocked and reordered and all that. I obviously am not going to lock a drive to test this theory, but it might need to unlock each file individually to overwrite it. Maybe it's not a problem with the disc, but the file system. I guess just keep hammering on Retry and see if the number starts going up?
Once again, thanks to everyone who posted their problems and solutions. I've added a Rapidshare.com mirror for the update iso image here:
URL-->http://rapidshare.com/files/88501453/Z2BypassUpdate.iso
I've also uploaded to my own dedicated server here, for non-Rapidshare users. No passwords, no waiting 45 seconds, just click and download.
thanks!
has anyone had the problem of when they insert the z2 bypass disc, it says the file is already updated on the unit? Its manufacturing date is july 07. I have not done the update from pioneer yet. I did have a unit from june 07, but the navi took a shit on me and had to return it to one of my distributors. it had the same problem. it said the updates were already on it. Any help would be appreciated.
Just did the bypass on a refurb unit and it worked great. Thanks for the help!! Great site.

Big Problem. Ran the update disk, installed fine 100% on both installers. system reset, asked for time info etc... everything looks good i have all menu options... but when i go to hardware info, connection, GPS connect says nogo, this is possibly because of the bypas, ok but... i am not located where my icon is telling me. i have to be getting signal because it moves when i move, when i turn it turn, but it is totally off. any ideas ?
hit the reset button
I have a avic-z2 I got from a friend. I just applied the update from the iso I burned. Everything with the update went smoothly to 100%. The unit then rebooted itself after I pressed ok.
It came back online and I hit the reset button. After the reboot I thought it was all good however, once driving out my driveway I got the parking break wire error and lost video.
I did the install myself. I know everything is grounded properly according to the diagrams. What do you guys think is up??

Nobody has any ideas on how to begin troubleshooting this problem. Still got a parking break lead msg and no video while moving....

Second, check the other thread, as I have already responded...
Yea that was terrible forum edicate. My bad.
Thanks for your reply in that other thread. You seem to be the only active poster here. I'm use to car forums where you miss one day and it's all new threads.
hi,
I just got my Z2 installed and suppoiblyl bypassed because I get the "Break wire...." message when turing the z2 on. I burned the CD but it keeps saying the the CD version is older version.
any suggestion please?
thanks
Check your that your 2 wire bypass is done correctly. The error that you are getting, is telling me that you do not have the 2nd wire properly grounded.
Ok so I did the update on my z2 last night, it went through all good, i hit the reset button all worked great. So I drove to work with just my parking brake grounded, and got the message, hooked up the 2nd wire. The question is do I need to press the reset button a second time now??
Most likely you will, but you will know for sure if the message pops up again.
It does as soon as I turn it on with out moving so I will do a reset and test. Thanks for all the great work. Most likely you will, but you will know for sure if the message pops up again.
So that did fix it. So both wires do need to be grounded prior to pressing the reset button.
i just got my z2 today. so all i have to do is download that file, burn as an image, load it on to the z2, do the 2 ground wires and i'm all set?

just one more thing before i do this, does the wire that needs to be bypassed on the rca harnesses on the input (near the fm antenna) or the output harness (near the power harness) and if the update iso software doesn't load, will my z2 be useless
never mind i did just the 2 wire bypass and it works great, also i did the gracenote update and didn't mess up the bypass ![]()
