I'm finally getting ready to do my Z1 to Z2 upgrade by loading the Z2 image onto a new hard drive. My question is, does the new Z2 image contain any of the following updates: Bluetooth(to stop the echo), Gracenote or the Z2 firmware? If not, is it recommended to do these updates after the Z1 to Z2 upgrade is finished?

Sorry guys,

I knew I had asked the question about the Bluetooth update sometime ago, but wasn't sure. I searched and found my old post. The bluetooth update is included in the Z2 image. What about the Z2 firmware and the Gracenote Update?

Does the Z2 upgrade work on ad HD1BT?

European version?

Are the maps different in the image-file?

First of all, I want to thank everyone that contributes to this site. I have been lurking here for just a short time since I got my Z2 and this site has been indispensable.

Anyway, I have been trying to grab the Z2 image from seahawkfan' torrent for a couple of days now and I’m unable to connect to the seed, so I’m getting the image from the peers. Since I’ve started, 13 people have downloaded it but no one is sticking around to help seed. I’m asking anyone who grabs the image to please stick around for a bit and help seed. It will go a lot quicker for all of us.

Thanks again

hello guys well i am new to avic 411.. but i have owned my avic z1 for about 2 years now. and well i would like to upgrade it to the z2..

I am actually pretty skilled with computers and hardrives and backups.. i was just wondering what if say... you pull the hard drive from the z1. then hook it up to you computer... make an image/ or backup with partition magic 8.0.... and then do this task.. if it fails. just pull the harddrive out and format the HD. and but your backuped z1 files back on the HD. would this work?

people have sucessfully restored from a back up but if you follow the instructions in this thread you will be fine.

sounds good then...

what about watching movies during motion.. i have just a permanently grounded parking brake wire.. would i need to buy that switch... or i was reading something that i just have to change two files in the z2 image....

one more questions.. are the ipod features fixed in the z2. like scrolling and viewing.. can i watch videos from the ipod with z2?

Just to give you an update on how I've setup the partitions size on an 80GB Toshiba HDD:

1. HDD connected via USB to my laptop

2. With Acronis Disk Director I have deleted all existing HDD partitions (if any)

3. With Acronis Disk Director I've created 4 partitions as follows:

LDATA - [ 20 GB FAT32 ];

SDATA - [ 2 MB FAT32 ];

MSV - [ 56 GB FAT32 ];

USER - [ 2 MB FAT32 ]

4. With Acronis True Image I've restore the Z2 img. in one session, one partition at the time to the corresponding new created partitions on HDD.

5. After all this process completed I modified backgrounds, etc.

So bottom line is that you can create partitions first (the size you want) and then restore the Z2 img. one partition at the time.

Cheers.

Quick question; increasing the MSV partion beyond 20gb...does the unit function normal with no reboots and what is the size limit to prevent issues?

Thanks,

Chris

It still works fine. However, it would not recognize the available space correctly.

I love the posts on the different hd tests. This board has been super helpful.

Now, I've spent a few hours following dead links for Z2 image. Can anyone point me to the URL d'jour? Thanks!

Download FLASHFXP

its a ftp program.. type in the link from the Method 1....

and then you can drag and drop all the files i got them all within like 15min

FlashXP is working great! Thanks!

Now, I'm wondering which firmware to install in my Z1 with a Z2 loaded drive? Do I install the Z1 firmware or the Z2 firmware. Finally, will I need to reprogram the tr7?

i have a few questions hopefully i wont get yelled at by anyone on here if i sound stupid but if i get a z1 and update it with z2 then ill have all the functionality of a store bought z2? also i dont want to go through the trouble of unlocking the drive and ive only had experience with drive locking with the original xbox so am i safe to assume that i just get a regular unlocked 2.5" drive throw the z2 image on it and it will work on the z1 without the need of locking and unlocking?

Yes

Yes, but make sure to get a Toshiba drive and disable security of the new drive before you plug it in the Z.

Then does the z1 with a z2 drive get z1 firmware or z2 firmware?

Can anyone help me find Z2Bypassed.part09.rar ?

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

First off, I'd like to thank everyone's hard work in find a nice hack to upgrade the Z1s to Z2s reliably. This saves the rest of us a great amount of time, effort, and also money.

I recently purchased the Toshiba 60GB off of NCIX (I'm Canadian and Newegg won't ship to Canada)

Nonetheless, I've been trying to download this for the past few days but it seems that no one is seeding or hosting it anymore.

Can someone please seed the Z2 image please? I'm willing to seed it and improve the sharing if I can get a copy of this. My ISP doesn't enforce my bandwidth.

Thanks,

Ryan

If you guys have a fast FTP server I can help. But I can only do it next week.

Posted Feb 03, 2008 · 07:00 UTC#245

so...from reading all these threads.

If you bought a new Toshiba hd, get the 2.5-3.5" adapter, flash the Z2 image onto the drive and it should work?

What's this about security and how do I unlock the drive? Does Step 4 apply if you're starting with a fresh hard drive?

Finished the conversion of my Z1 to a Z2 with a new Toshiba 80 GB drive. Did the new gracenote update. I downloaded the new Z2 firmware, but was wondering if this is the firmware I should be using, since in reality it is a Z1. I've seen other posts asking the same question. Can anyone give an answer that has done the updat?

Looks like the FTP server got hacked into, thought the user account was setup for no write but someone managed to delete the user account, I'm rebuildin FTP right now

ETA - When it's ready, it'll be ready

Hopefully there are some mirrors around, anyone gonna post their FTP mirror?

Z1 and Z2 are the same exact hardware. If you have Z2 software/firmware, you have a Z2.

Thanks for everyone's help with my install and Z1 to Z2 upgrade. This forum rocks. Everything is up and running perfectly.

Oh yeah........GIANTS 17 PATRIOTS 14, Unbelieveable. Looks like I'll have to use my navigation unit to navigate around the mass of people going nuts on the streets here in Flushing Queens NY. Great Game!
