Correct. Don't forget to turn TV out to 'ON' on the ipod when you get it

The day that the iPod touch came out, I looked through the refurbished stuff and the 5th gen iPods were gone. Glad there're back, and the 80 gig is only $20 more. Why didn't you get the 80 gig?

Posted Sep 20, 2007 · 17:58 UTC#53

Well 30 gigs was fine for me, i mosly want to play videoes on my avic-d3.

i had a 4 gig at first and that was not enouph to start down laoding videos and movies.

hey liquid have u had a chance to play around with the video out feature of ur 30 gig ipod from apple?

ok does it work?

Posted Sep 20, 2007 · 18:43 UTC#55

Yes, it works. That's the whole reason we're discussing buying the old refurbished ipods instead of the new ones.

great thanks, i can`t wait to get mines to play it on my avic d3 :D

i would have bought the 80 gb if only they had it. they only had the 30 gb when i bought mine :(

Wow, just checked again, and the 80gig is gone now. Guess you have to really jump on them when they show up.

Posted Sep 20, 2007 · 23:32 UTC#60

Update" Now the ipod classic is randomly freezing tracks. WHat a pain in the ass :( I really like the classic but with no video out and the track freezing I will probably just go with the gen 5.5 afterall. Thank goodness for costco's return policy :) No charge for open box ipod returns.

This really blows. I thought something was wrong with my Ipod adapter or Z1 until I read this thread. I can't believe Apple released a new product that is this buggy. My $375 160 GB classic goes back to the store in the morning. I guess I should have bought the 80 GB 5.5 gen they had on clearance. Doh!!

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 02:18 UTC#62

Just return the new ipod.

Unfortunatly, the old 80G is gone so I have to get the 30G.

I think the problems with new generation make Apple happy since a lot of D3 owners like me rush to buy the old generation. This is the chance for Apple to clear out not just the leftover but the refurbished ones.

YEA THE HELL WITH THE NEW IPODS, I HAVE A REFERB. 30 GIG WITH VIDEO COMING 2MORROW.

I think your keyboard may be malfunctioning. You should look into that.

OK ENOUPH OF THIS

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 13:54 UTC#69

Just order last night and try to cancel this morning so I can order the 80G but it says I cannot since it is ready for shipping. I think I'm stucked with it.

You can always call apple and tell them you want the 80 gig and they will recall the pkg. I did :) Wish I could have gotten 80 gig black though :(

Are the 5.5 30 and 80 gig ipods huge or are they a decent size?

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 16:16 UTC#72

They're the same size as the new ones.

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 18:18 UTC#73
They're the same size as the new ones.

Not quite. According to the press release new ones are thinner (but heavier)

4.1 x 2.4 x 0.41 @ 4.9 ounces (new 80G)

4.1 x 2.4 x 0.43 @ 4.8 ounces (old 30G)

4.1 x 2.4 x 0.53 @ 5.7 ounces (new 160G)

4.1 x 2.4 x 0.55 @ 5.5 ounces (old 80G)

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 18:23 UTC#74

Well... one tenth of an inch thicker with the same height and width. That's close enough for me to call it the same.

And the weight increase is from increasing the hard drive size, I'd guess. Which really is not much different, just one or two tenths of an ounce.

Posted Sep 21, 2007 · 19:09 UTC#75

and that is the reason why I said "not quite" instead of "wrong" :)

Actually, a decrease of 0.02 for a thickness of 0.43 is significant (4.6%)

If it is 100 then 0.02 is insignificant.
