This post to thank all the people here and give my input in avic hacking.

I have AVIC F930BT unit. It had maps and firmware from 2011. I updated it successfully without any problems.

For all of you, who have doubts, and questions like "what file should I download?" or "how to do this?", a little instruction below:
step 1: Download shortfusescript.zip

step 2: Download 2017 update.zip

step 3: Format sd card (or card's) (fat32)
step 4: Copy files from shortfusescript.zip to sd card
step 5: Place card inside the AVIC and press key when asked
step 6: Copy files from 2017 update.zip to another sd card (or the same as in step 4, after finishing step 5)
step 7: Place card in AVIC and restart the unit
step 8: Confirm update
step 9: Use PASSWORDPASSWORD as password
step 10: Wait 30min until the end 

Do not power off the unit during the update process.
In my case I was driving during step 10, so I didn't waste my time

Thanks to all active members in this forum, especially Godzilla and RonS, for the second time I've been updating my F940BT successfully. Continue in this spirit.

Then i used TestMode to get RenewalIFLib.dll from HU to edit it.

I copied one from following location \USER\PRG0\APL

Then edited it on PC with HxD.exe and made following changes:

 

Replaced all (hex) 0350A0E3 with 0050A0E3.

 

Saved the file, copied to SD Card, then back on HU copied on:

\USER\PRG0\APL

and

\USER\PRG1\APL

 

Booted SD Card with 2017 update, then for update password entered: PASSWORDPASSWORD

 

and bam, update installed after 25 minutes.

I m just updating my AVIC F20BT from V2 to V7 following this instruction !!!  

Big thanks to all.

Something should be repeated: Don t forget to save all your /USER file on SD card before doing anything.

But in my case , the only probleme was when i put  RenewalIFLib.dll  on this dir  \USER\PRG1\APL.

The SD card with 2017 update was not recognize.

I think it was because he 's only on dir  \USER\PRG0\APL before starting updating.

After remove it (from PRG1\APL) everything working well.

I did the bluetooth update to from 3.11 too.

I m just enjoy now , thanks again !!!

Can't open Display to insert SD Card anymore...

Hey guys, i just tried updating my F20BT following the guide here and got an "Wrong SD" error towards the end. No big deal i thought and wanted to delete the progress via Testmode in order to restore back to my old version as advised here. I got back to my car and suddenly wasn't able to insert the SD anymore, leaving me with the message "No SD available. Insert SD to proceed.".

Does anyone know how to force the F20BT to flip the display? Is there some button combination or little hole through which i could force it to open with a pin? 

Hope someone can come to the rescue and help me...

Hold the eject button for about 5 seconds. You might need to cycle the power while holding the eject.   BTW, if you got that error you did something wrong. Do not modify any files on the SD except cardinfo.cif (if necessary).

BTW, the instruction in that link are to restart the install. The way to abort the install is - put the super testmode.key on a SD or usb, put that in, and it should boot to testmode. go into file maintenance, and remove the file:
  USER\SYSTEM\Download\StartKnd.log
this will kick the unit out of upgrade mode, and should restart into regular mode on next power up (remember to remove the TestMode SD).

I'd still like to attempt the update of the 2017 EU Maps for my F20BT. So just to not mess things up again:

1. I grab the Maps from Godzillas Google Drive from the first quote in his initial post - here.

2. Backup my Renewall with the Testkey.

3. Replace the cardinfo.cif with the one provided by Psydon - here. 

And the update should go through fine. Correct? 

Edit: Running Testkey again to ShortFuse was unneccessary as it threw an error. But following your instructions and only replacing the cardinfo.cif did the trick.

No, i just downloaded the maps, shortfuse and the correct cardinfo.cif. The first time around i replaced the hex in the Renewall and it bricked my HU. Just Shortfuse and then put the update with your cardinfo.cif on the SD-Card. Works like a charm.

Do the maps also work for AVIC f9210bt?

Help needed! Guys, hello. When I try to download 2017 upadte.zip from google drive, https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8anve6eLs7YbThSa3VtV2JISXc/view, the download stops before completion and I get this message: Failed - Network disconnected. 

Has the file been removed from google drive? Is there another available link for the 2017 map update zip?

It worked on my F40BT! The first few times it failed though, because it apparently copied the modified RenewalIflib file to the main folders of both APG0 and APG1. Is there any way to know which version of the maps are installed? I can see that I've now got firmware version 07.0000, but can't find anything about the maps.

Hello, the file is still available, I downloaded it last night. Your error message indicates a problem with your network connection... ;o)

At which time of day did you try the download? What is your net provider? Usually, your network is disconnected once a day for a few moments by your provider in order to give you a new IP adress. Maybe it was just in the download process?

Look at the copyright message on the boot screen. If you read anything like (c) ... 2008 - 2017 you have the latest 2017 maps.

Hi everybody, I just finished the update on my F840BT. No problems at all. Many thanks to Godzilla, SuperFuse, RonS and all others who are spending their time and sharing their knowledge to help us keeping our devices up to date.

I have a request to all you guys who use this forum to get your free (!) updates. Please keep in mind, this forum is not a service point, a free helpdesk nor an emergency hotline for a product which you bought for a lot of money. This forum lives because there are a few fellows who spend (and sometimes even waste...) their time for the benefit of all of us.

Please try to contribute and make it easier for them. I mean, if you want to have the free update, take YOUR time and read everything in the corresponding thread. I mean EVERYTHING! Yes, in this thread, it's 22 pages with 15 posts each. Read it and try to understand it. If necessary, read it once more. Yes, it takes A LOT of time. But it saves a lot of time and work for those who are answering the same questions again and again. And it saves YOU a lot of money!!! As far as I see, almost all possible causes for errors are already covered in this thread. Use common sense and follow the given instructions. Doing this, I could use the 2013, 2015, and 2017 updates successfully.

In case you still have trouble, I'm sure everybody will be well motivated to help.

hi i have problem

1. i use SD(32GB) with update files instalation starts and i had to give password - "passwordpassword" didnt work

2. i use ShortFuseScript and run it in my RADIO

3. i put SD with updae files and nothing hapening my radio just turning on no instalation starts

i change cardinfo file on SD, i remove file from :USER\SYSTEM\Download\StartKnd.log

i change SD from 32gb to 8gb nothing helps instalation dont want to start.

any ideas ???

Tried to update F30BT step by step:

1 - using formated fat32 SDcard 4GB and unzip all shortfusescript files to sd root

2 - go to unit, start, insert sdcard, ask to updated by pressing any key, Done without errors. turn off unity after (I have a backup off all files inside SDcard afterrun this script)

3 - Format again the same SDCARD 4GB fat32

4 - unzip 2017 update with pass 'Dracarys' and copy firmware/update/cardinfo to sdcard root (I did not edit nothing, just copy/paste)

5 - insert sdcard into unit (detects update), insert PASSWORDPASSWORD ok and the unit informs, the unit need to restart in oder to install the update

6 - unit restart, update starts ok, but at 8%, got stucked on SD card error message

Now do I need to run unit in testmode to continue or can I use another SDCARD or format the same one, unzip again the map, copy and try to continue from 8% because unit cannot move after 8% message
