Check serial number on radio and the RR
[FIX] SDCard Failed? Software Error on your w4500nex? Look here!
Ive had no problem with my steering control via RR. I've done is on 4400 to 4500 to 4600 had no problems
Can someone create a 4500 image I can buy? My wireless CarPlay doesn’t work after I got an iPhone 13 Pro in its launch.
Part #QXX3352 from PacParts.com will get you the w4500 firmware.
Edited the sysd.conf file as specified by @jrgutier and no touchscreen for me either.
I'll try to only include the 4500 product info as others have tried and hopefully that works...
Edit: turns out I was sold the wrong unit....box said 4500nex but label said 4400nex.
I now have a 4500nex and the instructions works great.
Also, got myself a Nokia c6-01 and can now finally erase the SD cards that get locked during trial and error.
If anyone needs cards unlocked, feel free to send them my way and im happy to unlock and mail them back. Send a pm.
Or find a Nokia e series or n series or c series on ebay and those should work to format it.

On 8/5/2021 at 8:21 PM, jrgutier said:I believe that the firmware is defaulting to the W8400NEX when it can't lookup the 4500NEX product XML in sysd.conf. This was resulting in a really delayed startup. I transplanted the correct entry from the 8500NEX 1.08 update file using the strings command on the Platform PRG file, which fixed my problem. just had this issue happen to my radio a few days ago... anyone ever find out a root cause for this? was just driving one day and boom it died...
Thanks for these files, writing to SD card now!
SD card failure is what I have read. Cheap or too full of error logs is my understanding.
Hi All,
Just joining this thread to share what I have been successful with, and hoping that someone can help me out the getting my Maestro RR to work again with my AVH-W4500NEX.
Like many others, my AVH-W4500NEX started acting up and I found out it was due to a poor quality SD card that came in the unit from the factory.
I was able to download the AVIC4500only.img file from this old link (https://mega.nz/folder/AI9RxZjZ#jAXMB8e-8tPlBF5s5VUvBQ) before it was removed. I have since posted this file to the following Google Drive location.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FhhDuE2QdXU0mvF_G7n_8hURPUZ0Jb7R/view?usp=sharing
I was able to paste the image to a new SD card and install it into my AVH-W4500NEX and it worked like a charm.
I used a Sandisk Extreme SDHC UHS-I/U3 16GB SD card (~$15CAD from Amazon), used "balenaEtcher" on my MAC MINI M1 to get the image flashed onto the SD card, and followed the following Youtube video to take the head unit apart and reassemble it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cHp6jxD5R8
The firmware is showing as version 1.02 with this image (my old firmware was listed as 1.00). After the SD card replacement/ firmware upgrade I confirmed that the serial number that shows up in the System Information screen of my AVH-W4500NEX still matches the serial number that is on the sticker on the bottom of the unit.
Apple CarPlay (both USB and Wifi) works fine.
The only thing that I still cannot get to work is the Maestro RR. I continually get the double red flashing light on the Maestro RR even after I have successfully re-flashed the Maestro RR (multiple times), and have factory reset the AVH-W4500NEX.
I reached out to Auto Motive Data Solutions (ADS) tech support and got the following response:
I have seen this is a few times now and while you were able to swap the SD card that is only one part of the fixing your original issue, the other step requires Pioneer sync the embedded information from that SD card to the radio. The only way I have seen this done successfully is by sending the unit into Pioneer Warranty or an authorized Pioneer service center to complete this side. Once done you should be able to pull the new serial number on the radio flash the RR.

Where did you get the SD card for 4500 because I just replaced mine and my steering wheel controls don't work?

I have a .img for the W4500NEX and trying to follow your instructions for Mac. I flashed the SD card using that software but once done it will not mount and read by the Mac or I’m the W4500 with the SD slot under the screen. I was hoping I could use the .img to update firmware without removing the dash and unit. Maybe that isn’t possible but how do I know the Imaged flashed to the SD card replacement works before putting it in the unit? Ideas?
[email protected] if you want to message me.
Once the img is placed on the sd card it cannot be read by a Mac or a Windows machine only a Linux machine. Once you put it in the w4500 and try to boot it will be locked so it cannot be read at all except for the pioneer unit. Does this help.

It answers part of my question. So when I placed in the available SD reader behind the face, the unit didn’t recognize it either. So is that also expected? Has anyone tried to use the .img to update firmware? I tried but the front SD card unit doesn’t recognize the SD card. Just trying to avoid taking apart the dash and the unit to find it still not working in the SD slot buried within the unit behind the dash.
Hopefully this will help you. When I took my unit (w4500) out of my truck I cut a hole in it so if something didn’t go right I could easily access the sd reader for the firmware. I acquired the firmware, and burnt it to a 16gb sd card. It worked but not correctly. I used a Windows Img burner to do this. So I then purchased a 16gb Sandisk SD card, real nice one and I used my Linux machine to burn the image to this card. Haven’t had not even one issue since. I am going to try to attach a photo of my unit. Top slot is the user assessable SD slot, the bottom one is the slot for the firmware.
I cannot confirm this. I have an iPhone and no steering wheel controls on my truck. But I am using a file purchased from PacParts. Expensive but it works fine. It also was not password locked so I purchased a 16gb Sandisk SD card and put the image on it saving the original in case this happens again.
@Datsun How did you duplicate the SD card you bought from PacParts?
