Will 32GB work? I too was struggling to find 16GB. I was going to use a copy and not the original but said screw it. I don't trust Amazon for SD cards.

So I just burned the AVIC4500only file to my 32gb SD card. I didn't really feel like opening the unit so I just dremeled a hole in it. Not pretty but now I have easy access to the SD card. Wish me luck guys, I really hope this works. I'm still going to try to get the original W4500NEX software somehow eventually but hopfully this will bring my headunit back to life for now.1?ui=2&ik=64ee7894d5&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-a:r1534914592402903426&th=1863ec1e1c055ff5&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ8csv2fmtyZZUL2UjG6uaDJIMN42t8tY7jlOOjobv8gGW31F0Enmlx6YScONYFg3DUBIhOWV4f94W7Hv-jFou4T6SLYVlHEApu2BUszKh1ysu1b97WfNmlsalg&disp=emb&realattid=1863ebd35c681a79b262

It will

It will work - but as others have said, if you use the Maestro RR - it will no longer work.  You'll need to rewrite/reprogram the serial number (device id) in to the radio, regardless of what it says is there.  You may want to seek out @asd255 for a better alternative with a fully working image / ability to recode the device ID

The OEM replacement card worked with my Maestro no problem. So an image from it should too. I can test that with a burner card when I have time.

Also, isn’t the underlying problem that the 16GB card fills up with logs or something? So wouldn’t a 32GB last longer?

OEM will not need device ID reprogramming as it is same for same.  The other images floating around are modified 4400 images, and do need a reprogram (also the 8500 image that works well from @asd255)

That is one issue but the most problem is the cheap cards going bad and failing in To read only mode.

Well I have some good news! I did some testing today and can confirm that the 32gb SD cards work great! I tried a Sandisk Extreme and an Extreme Pro and they both work well. As for the software I tried both the AVIC4500only file and a copy of the OEM SD card. Both seem to actually work really well but the AVIC4500only was version 1.02 of the firmware and the OEM SD card was version 1.06. I don't have steering wheel controls so I couldn't test those unfortunately. The headunit seems faster with the new SD cards and it is also way less buggy. I think my original SD card was pretty full for a while as my headunit got really buggy before totally giving out. Also the original SD card had version 1.00 firmware with no way to update it which is kinda werid. Pioneer really needs to support their products better

Mine says 1.06 too. Maybe they fixed some of these latent issues in 1.06. It is weird that it's not publicly available.

The Ebay card is 1.02.

I got 1.04 from them.

The Ebay guy claims to have copied an original card. He even calls out the fake cards. Hence it was weird his didn't work with Maestro but OEM replacement did.

Hard to say what's real and what isn't - it's unfortunate, but there are some people trying to recoup their costs, and some trying to just make money.  Some you win, some you lose.

Who is the ebay guy?

That was one thought but I don't think that's the case. My 4500 failed and i real-programmed the same SD card (took countless hours to figure out how to even make the card visible in a computer). And then it still had bootloop issues after reprogramming. So I think the flash memory just starts to fail.

The other issue, even if it was a storage space issue is that simply putting it into a larger SD card doesn't mean there's more "usable" space available. The partitions from the image (specificially the partition where logs are stored) would need to be enlarged as well.

Mine says 1.06. But I purchased from a different seller than the link @DD36 posted.

I'll see if I can get the checksums to compare.

Supposedly, they are identical (the ones direct from Pioneer) 1.04 and 1.06

Posted Feb 18, 2023 · 00:50 UTC#117

Pioneer apps are the same in 1.04 and 1.06
Perhaps there are differences in the system libraries. but that would take a lot of time to check.
unfortunately there is no change log

Thank you so much @slackwaredragon i was able to recover my AVH-Z9200DAB. Also, the class 10 SD card seems make the device respond a bit faster. Good work!

can you tell which file you used for z9200dab? 4400nex or 4500nex? Regards

4400nex 1.00 firmware modded for 4500nex

This one solved the issues of Bluetooth not auto reconnecting in Android and Android Auto not connecting that 1.02 has.

I have two W4500NEX headunits. the SD card failed on one of them.  How do I backup the other one on the unit that is still working? I easily removed the SD card, but I cannot read it in Windows to backup up or make an image.

I merely want to make a block level copy so I can use a reputable SD Card brand to mitigate this issue.
