1.
i guess ill spend some time making the code and try and program one of these things, do you think 3 pulses? or just one, i need to know the timing of how long to wait also, I will make one up for trial and ill send it to someone on the board to try out after i bench test it since i dont have a z1 yet. If all is working properly i will release the hex file and schematic to the users on this forum.
That would be cool, you could even sell them! I have no idea what the actual specifics are. Most people say 3 pulses. I know there is only a 2-3 second time win
2.
pic would be alot cheaper, you can use a pic12c508 or 12c509 that has an internal oscillator, and program it very easily, you would need an transistor for the outputs and a voltage regulator also. total cost would be about $6-8 if that.
I'm not familiar with that, but it sounds like it would work, and its A LOT cheaper!
3. Hmm, upon further inspection, it looks like you could get a BS1: http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=BS1-IC And a 12 volt relay with a 5 volt control current and that would be it. Program to BS1 to send 3 pulses on startup after a short delay and then go to sleep. Upon getting power it would run this code:
PAUSE 3000 (3 seconds) HIGH 1 (send pulse to relay) PAUSE 250 (1/4 second) LOW 1 (kill pulse to relay) PAUSE 250 (1/4 second) HIGH 1 (send pulse to relay) PAUSE 250 (1/4
4. Basic Stamps should handle it fine, and are easy to program, but not too cheap. If I had a Z1 I would test it with my Basic Stamp2. www.parallax.com
5.
How is this? http://www.sminnick.com/AviatorRadio/ It installed real nice in my 03 Lincoln Aviator. I even used a PAC SWI-PS to save my steering wheel control!
THATS AWESOME!
6. Did the stock radio have the "gets louder as you go faster thing"? If it does, the VSS will be wired into the radio allready and will be included in your vehicles wire harness.
7.
My wife took my Porsche in today to the the Z1 uninstalled....thank goodness!! Never be a first adopter. Especially with gadgets!
Good for you, one less thing to complain about.
8. I have heard that it does not work.
9. Hmm, I don't know. Maybe try some different colors. I know with the D1 a lot of colors show up transparent or inverted.
10.
ok, I have to much free time...I'll quit now, and go watch a DVD in my car.
Thats great! Haha!
11.
Seriously, I was ecstactic yesterday when I found this thread. Couldn't wait to leave work and go home to try it out for myself. Lets not forget to thank those who contributed to this great thread and Jason for creating this awesome site.
Thanks Man! I never imagined that the site would grow this big!
12. That looks Cool! You will have a make a ISO of the stock Nav DVD. Once the iso is made, open it using ultra ISO or equivilant. Replace one of the stock gauges with your custom guage then save the iso, and burn it.
13. There sould be a physical "memo" button on the unit, just press and hold that until it beeps, you just saved the current song.
14. Cool, sounds like your making good progress. You used the Bigtracks logo I posted right? It shows up grayscale? Stupid color thing...
15. Any progress on the logos? I would test it myself, but I have run out of every kind of burnable DVD in my house. Heh... Maybe i'll "BORROW" some from school.
16.
My installer insists that isn't the case on the install. But, even so that doesn't explain the abysmal navigation. And if the problem were just "car nav" then all the companies units would be bad, but the 700 I used for comparison is cheaper and better. Car nav is something I have been using for years now. But never have I spent so much on anything that navigates so poorly...expect for perhaps one of my ex-girlfriends. But even they know 70 is faster than 35 and no stop lights is better than neighborhoods small roads.
I know the nav isn't great, but i
17. I agree with the navigation. When I hit the go to school button, my D1 wants to go down a major street with stop lights every block instead of driving a extra few miles and getting on the interstate. it does however get the correct route if I hit the next button and go to route #2. However, Car Navigation in general is a very new concept, we are the "early adopters" and have to adjust our criticism accordingly. New concepts are never perfect. The speedometer error, I believe was caused by poor installation. They could have a bad connection on the wire, there could be noise or interfere
18. That looks great! Video and Nav at the same time! Great Idea!
19. One of the buttons, Connection status or learning status, something like that, will show "speed pulse", if that says 0, it's not hooked up.
20. The VSS Wire, if thats not hooked up, the GPS.
21. The speed pulse wire allows navigation (dead reckoning) to take place when GPS Signal drops out. (ex: mountains, tunnels, etc.) I would install it if the bypass isn't bothered by it.
22. Ahh!!! NOT ANOTHER AVIC!!! Made a mini topic here: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22
23. I do not have a Z1, and can't test this, but you either: 1. Flash the headlights 3 times while the Z1 turns on. 2. Get a TR7 and program it to send 3 pulses over 2 seconds upon power up.
24.
will the pac tr7 work with z1? and also the time window for flashing your lights is about 2 seconds
It should work. Just program the TR7 to send 3 pulses over 2 seconds.
