  1. I installed mine in a 2005 Toyota Highlander.
  2. I took a chance with placing the mic on the neck behind the steering wheel. I had to use a thin strip of double sided tape to mount the mount, but I switched positions with my brother, and it seemed to not have any problems. This position has a reduced sound field from your speakers since the neck is solid. Good luck. PS. My brother has a tC also and is considering the AVIC-Z1. If possible, could you post your install? . . . Just to give him some encouragement. Thanks in advance.
  3. Yeah, I was kinda disappointed with that as well when I heard mine. I think it has something to do with the bit rate that the voice was rendered on. But I'm not for sure. If you find a means of fixing it, please, please. please post it. Thanks in advance.
  4. First of all, a spectrum analyzer's purpose is not a light show. It is used to tune the dynamics and acoustics of a sound system to the environment that it is applied in. I'm a sound engineer and I would never run a concert with out some type of analyzer. In my car, I run a white noise generator when I tune my equalizer to match the acoustics in my car. Because there is no SA built in my car, I have to use my real meters and RTA mic to tune correctly. Although the SA in my previous deck didn't have the accuracy of the ones I use at work, it assisted in telling me where my peak frequencies are
  5. My old deck was a Pioneer DEH-8600MP and my friend's deck DEH-P7800MP both have spectrum analyzers. They are obviously not as accurate as a real one, but it measures pretty well. If I'm not mistaken, they are 13 and 16 band accurate. Both decks are single din are standard MP3/ CD decks. I actually liked these decks very much in terms of sound and performance. I really wouldn't choose any other CD/ MP3 decks other than these. Still, the amount of features that come with the AVIC-Z1 and the upgradable features make the AVIC-Z1 the top of multimedia in-car entertainment.
  6. Does anyone know how to hide the digital clock completely? I know in the settings menu you can turn set the clock display for all or just audio, but how about none at all? I checked the manual, but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance.
  7. I must be doing something wrong! I can't seem to find the "Buy now" button. Can somebody help me? Please
  8. Sorry, other pioneer decks have the SAs but this deck does not. Believe me, I was really disappointed. My previous deck had a beautiful 13-band SA but it only did half what the AVIC can do. At any rate, I'm already overly distracted by looking at the NAV and movies on screen (with the "code") of course. Having an SA is a dream, while playing the videos is a reality.
  9. I don't know if it is true or not, but the people that installed my Z1 said that a screen that large would be considered illegal to have an animated screen while the vehicle is in motion. My previous deck was a Pioneer deck that had spectrum analyzers and moving graphics but it was only a single din and wasn't as noticeable. For the Z1, it would be really cool, but I don't think the deck's firmware will allow it, though other decks do. But, I could be wrong. If you find a way - please let me know. Good times.
  10. I just followed your link, but I couldn't seem to locate the "buy now" button. Where is it? Thanks in advance.
  11. We used was a black ABS plastic. It's fully durable and covers the entire deck. The mounting kit for my Z1 on my Highlander leaves these really open slots on both sides of the install. At first I thought it was just a horrible install, but it was a blessing in disguise. When in motion or being used, I made side fills out of the scrap plastic to fit exact. To cover, I used the slots to fit in the cover since I had the cover heated and molded to my specifications. Between the the cover and the mounting kit, I put a piece of felt to prevent scratching. The bended wings hug the kit and go in deep
  12. I've called almost every car audio shop in the Bay Area and they said it doesn't come off at all. What I did was I had Tap Plastic make me a matching cover for the front of the deck so that no one can really see it. It's temporary, but it's the best so far. At the sametime, my windows are tinted @ 5% over the stock 35%. I'll keep you posted as I find new things and ideas. Good Luck.
  13. Great job on your install. It looks clean and sweet. Cheers!
  14. Hey all, I just had my AVIC-Z1 installed in 05' Toyota Highlander. This unit is awesome, too bad my installers did a horrible job cosmetically. They didn't provide a clean mounting kit for me, so I have to either find a new one or find a ABS molder. (FYI to all you Highlander owners). At any rate, you guys are doing a great job in keepin all the owners up to date. Thanks! PS. I love this thing!
