  1. Great write up! Thanks for all the good tips.
  2. Absolutely. The screen in 7000 washes out very badly with any kind of light, direct or indirect. 8000 is a must if you want to use the unit during the day hours.
  3. FYI, The ASWC-1 worked perfectly when I installed it in my Mercedes SL550 with the 7000NEX. I'm sure the interface protocol is the same as the 8000. Must be something about your wiring or installation. What are the lights doing on your module? That confirms that your car is talking with the ASWC-1. See the instructions for details.
  4. Excellent news. Glad to know my unit was the issue. Thanks.
  5. I had an early 7000NEX, and Siri didn't work. It took your command, and replied with 3 seconds of hissing static. This happened when my iPhone was connected by either bluetooth, USB, or the A/V Cable. Has anyone else tried Siri on an NEX unit? Does it work? Wondering if mine was a one-off defect or something more general. Thanks.
  6. this was a deal-killer for me. Inability of the Nav to hold a zoom setting in normal driving mode was just stupid. This was the majority of the reason I removed my 7000NEX and swapped it for a Kenwood. Does Siri work on your unit? It didn't on mine, that was another killer.
  7. Unit will be nice in your SLK. Here's a few quick answers for you: parking brake bypass: this is expecting a signal that goes between and open circuit (parking brake off) and ground (parking brake on). There's a bunch of info on google and elsewhere about how to wire a bypass. At its simplest, you can just ground this wire. This works on some brands (like Kenwood). Other brands like Pionees are a bit more complex and looking for this circuit to turn on/off at some point. For this, some wire in a relay into the circuit. See Google for details. You can also purchase parking brake byp
  8. Tried that a ton of times. Whatever I did, I couldn't get the driving map to hold a zoom setting, it always defaults back to the auto zoom level it was programmed for. I'll relook at the NEX units once this "feature" has been fixed in a future firmware update.
  9. I called the 800 number during normal working hours. 1-800-421-1404
  10. If its any consolation, Pioneer opened a case regarding zoom on the 7000NEX. They just left a voice mail saying it's supposed to work like that. Apparently, its a "feature". You can't zoom the map mode while driving! IMHO, that's a fatal flaw. I should post the voice mail text from Pioneer. It's hilarious.
  11. I still have the DNX891HD and love it! Great head unit, near perfection. Much, much faster than the 2013 Kenwoods. I put up a review on Crutchfield if you want to see my detailed comments.
  12. That would be my review of the 7000NEX that complained about the map colors. Far worse, the map on my 7000NEX didn't zoom. If you hit the map to zoom, you got a "select destination" screen with the map that would zoom; as soon as you hit the back button, it returned to the driving screen at the old zoom setting. Does yours have this behavior as well? Still haven't confirmed if my unit was defective or this was common to the other NEX models.
  13. The screen on my 7000NEX washed out completely in both direct sunlight and strong indirect. I hope the 8000NEX screen is better in this regard. FYI, I deinstalled my 7000NEX (due to this and other problems such as inability to zoom the map screen during normal driving) and installed a Kenwood DNX891HD. That screen was far better than the 7000NEX; it didn't nearly wash out as much in indirect light.
  14. Good to know. To be clear, here was my issue: you can zoom the map in the non-moving (select destination) screen. However, when you return to the normal map which follows you as you drive, this screen does NOT retain the zoom setting. If you're playing with your unit under static conditions (not driving), it will work fine. Once you're in the moving car, the zoom won't hold for the normal scrolling map. Also, do you have an iPhone? Does Siri work? I got literally 3 seconds of hissing as a response to any Siri query.
  15. Great, I'm thrilled to here others haven't seen the issues I had. I gave a very specific list of problems (Siri doesn't work, map won't zoom, etc.). Does your 7000NEX have these issues? If not, then that's an important data point. Perhaps my specific unit had some issue.
  16. I have no more information than what my local shop told me earlier this week. See my thread on the 7000NEX for all the details. Many, many problems with this unit, all detailed in that thread. It was my local dealer that said it was recalled and to return the unit, which I did.
  17. No idea if other models have been recalled. My dealer said that my unit (7000NEX) had been recalled. I didn't ask about other models.
  18. Regarding the bypass: I installed a relay bypass for the parking brake on the 7000NEX I installed. Within a few miles, the 7000NEX recognized that the car was moving, gave an error message along the lines of "unit has detected that parking circuit is miswired", and locked out the parking brake functions whenever it saw movement faster than about 5 mph. From this point on, every time the unit turned on, it gave this warning message (and required you to press "ok" to acknowledge it) and still locked out the parking brake. In sum, I couldn't find a way to bypass the parking brake interloc
  19. Final update: I contacted my dealer regarding the problems with the 7000NEX and was informed that Pioneer is recalling all of these units. I was told to bring it back in for an exchange. I just did the uninstall, packed it up, and brought back a non-Pioneer unit. Clearly, Pioneer has some bugs to fix before this unit is ready for public release.
  20. Just a few updates and corrections to my prior comments. I found the animated wallpapers. These are only functional on the A/V screens, not the home screen. No animations on the home screen. You can't force the unit to stay on the home screen indefinitely. The home screen is rather good looking (a bit of a Windows Metro feel to it), it places the current audio source album art among the icons. A shame you can't leave it in this mode. After about 30 seconds, it reverts to your prior mode, either map or the audio source. Still no solution for inability to zoom the map. A real
  21. Just got off the phone with Pioneer Customer service regarding the inability to zoom in map view. They had a demo unit working on their end and were able to repeat the problem. The service agent checked with the local tech, who also repeated the problem and confirmed the inability to zoom map view. They said this was a brand new unit (duh!), I was the first (and so far only) person to call with an issue, and they opened a ticket. Said they would further research the problem to see if there was a way to enable zoom. I'm speculating now, but this is clearly a bug. A nav system with no a
  22. What problem are you having?
  23. I'm in New Mexico and the unit was purchased from Audio Express in Albuquerque.
  24. SD card was 32GB with about 21 GB of music files.
