Updating the unit
-
Uh, mines been sitting a while and update still says 0%, should I plug and try again? Update. 3% is this going to take a couple hours?
-
I was able to download the firmware. Slow but I got it. "UPDATE: I also tried AppRadio mode with the HDMI/Lightning connector. Neither CarPlay nor AppRadio work with the HDMI/Lightning Connector." So AppRadio is broken?

The website is slammed and I cannot download. Looks like I'll wait until tonight to see if it bricks units etc.

Since the latest update of Waze, I'm having a lot of trouble with screen orientation. Before, I would just plug in my phone and go. Now, if it is oriented any way but up, the screen will be upside down or sideways, etc. Never had this issue before. Also, sometimes when Siri comes up and then goes away, the orientation will mess up. Have to press the home button and then reopen Waze to fix.

Here's something interesting I didn't realize before, the Ferrari uses an Alpine system - http://www.autoconnectedcar.com/2014/09/ferrari-wins-iphone-race-1st-carplay-connected-car-for-ios-7-8/. Looks like Alpine has the upper hand - although most of us jumped on the Pioneer bandwagon simply for the early promise of Carplay compatibilty. The upshot of the Pioneer delay and Alpine saying it was coming to market in the fall is that Pioneer's false marketing worked, which probably ticks off Alpine as well as the users.

Man, that's a lot of unread email

I agree with this. I'd rather have something that worked perfectly than half baked. I think the disingenuous advertising and lack of communication is what's so disappointing. I have never thought carplay would add significant functionality to the radio but it certainly was the reason I picked the NEX over the competition and other, cheaper pioneer options.

Thanks for the update. Where do I send more money?
-
My frustration is based solely in the fact that pioneer has, literally, said nothing for months. I expect the Carplay function will easily become vaporware and pioneer will never say anything. This experience is making me question whether this is a company I will deal with in the future.

Rear camera stopped working (It's not the brown input issue)

Bizarre. I'd guess the reverse sensing wire came loose. Also, check the setting re ground vs battery and make sure you didn't accidentally change. Good luck. -
Ferrari just released a couple of days ago. Two weeks from now wouldn't be all that far away in the grand scheme of things.
-
Why would they mention Carplay in the keynote?
-
And Pioneer knows you'll all forget the pain waiting for Carplay has caused you over the past three months as soon as it's released.

Nex5000 backup camera doesn't work. Only works in source mode

This has been discussed in this forum ad nauseum -- it's also in the user manual. Use the search function (it's brown btw). -
Carplay to be released at Apple Iphone Event in September

...Pioneer's revised summer release. -
Anyone actually using this app? I turned it on the other day again for the first time since release. Good idea just don't have the need, I guess.

Wait, the constant power is hooked to the license plate lamps...is that really constant? Wouldn't that only be constant when you have your headlights on? See what I'm getting at here?

Apple Files for "CarPlay" Trademark in the US and Europe

The switched wire you refer to, is that the one on the camera or the HU?

Good thing there was no money on the line! I'm predicting two Tuesdays from now but maybe seven. -
Haha. Oops. I should have paid more attention to your post. I guess my thought is that Apple has a tendency to release products with strong functionality on a few features, rather than focusing on a lot of features that only work okay or are hindered by the hardware. e.g. The original iphone (no App Store), and Apple TV(which is still held back by Apple). This will mean that a lot of people will complain it's too bare bones to be useful. Anyway since pandora is baked into the NEX, I'm really only worried about Spotify (there) and Waze (will be months from release) being installed.

In conjunction with all the anticipation/hysteria re Carplay, I was just reading some newish reviews. To sum up the reviews in one word, "meh."
